Chromosome Segregation, Adeuploidy and Cancer

Chromosome segregation, aneuploidy
and cancer course
January 19th – January 23rd 2015
Organizers:
Prof. dr. S. M. A. Lens, Dept. Molecular Cancer Research, UMC Utrecht
Dr. Michael Hadders, Dept. Molecular Cancer Research, UMC Utrecht
Dr. Nannette Jelluma, Dept. Molecular Cancer Research, UMC Utrecht
Venue: Stratenum, Universiteitsweg 100, Utrecht
In this course the molecular basis of correct chromosome segregation during cell division will be
discussed. Defects in this process can give rise to aneuploidy, one of the hallmarks of cancer. The
focus of the course will be on:
- The molecules and principles that ensure proper nuclear division
- Centromere and kinetochores
- The role of chromosome mis-segregation in cancer
- Chromosome segregation during meiosis
- The control of cytoplasmic division
The course will consist of literature surveys combined with lectures and discussions by experts in
the field and work groups on the experimental aspects of mitosis research.
Speakers:
Dr. Patrick Heun (Univ. Edinburgh, UK)
Dr. Daniel Gerlich (Institute of Molecular Biotechnology, Vienna, Austria)
Dr. Floris Foijer (UMCG, Groningen, NL)
Dr. Esther Baart (Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, NL)
max. number of students: 25
