Course
Often described as “stately”, The Hague is both the seat of
the Dutch government and a centre for international law.
The Binnenhof, a picturesque collection of buildings located
by a pond, is not your average government complex. And
there’s plenty to do that has nothing to do with diplomacy.
The Mauritshuis features masterpieces by Rembrandt and
Vermeer, including the famous ‘Girl With a Pearl Earring’.
The Escher Museum, formerly a royal residence, showcases
the unique prints of M.C. Escher, world-renowned for their
intriguing spatial effects. The city’s Indonesian restaurants
are justifiably creating a buzz.
If you truly want to go Dutch, hop on a bicycle to explore
the pretty parks dotting the city, or embrace the kitschy
allure of Scheveningen, a seaside resort, during a walk along
its beaches. Don’t forget to treat yourself to some Genever,
the traditional, juniper-flavoured liquor favoured by locals.
