EU INTERREG IVC CASA Kent County Council Good Practice Workshop 17th October 2014 De Vere Village Hotel, Maidstone, Kent EU INTERREG IVC CASA The EU Interreg IVC Project CASA is about the development of regional policy and exchange of knowledge around the upscaling of innovative ICT. Many European countries are facing an unsustainable situation as citizens across the continent are living longer, resulting in demographic changes that are placing increasing pressure on health and social care. Demographic changes make it necessary to organise the care and housing of senior citizens and the chronically ill in a smarter way including the use of ICT. This also gives opportunities for innovative companies to develop their new tools and services. The CASA project comprises 14 participating organisations from 13 European regions: Flanders (Belgium) as Lead Partner, Noord-Brabant (the Netherlands), Kent County and Scotland (United Kingdom), Veneto Region and Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Italy), Southern Denmark, Wielkopolska (Poland), Catalonia and Andalucia (Spain), Timis County (Romania), East-Sweden and the Region Halland (Sweden). Kent County Council Kent County Council alongside other regions host study visits with the themes focussing on monitoring, safety and self-management, social interaction, chronic diseases, healthy lifestyle and rehabilitation, informal care, telemedicine evaluation model, mobility and liveability integrated regional policy, business and knowledge development, user driven innovation through public private partnership and large scale deployment. Kent County Council completes a regional implementation plan specifying how they will work to integrate the lessons learnt from the project into its local, regional or if relevant, national policies. It’s main focus should remain on the future actions planned to ensure that the benefits of the exchange of experience are not lost after the project’s end. There have been a number of talks around developing the good practice identified from CASA and applying for future funding under the new funding scheme, Interreg Europe (also known as Interreg V). Interreg Europe is still being developed and will run from 2014 until 2020. Senior managers from KCC visited Ghent (9th-11th October 2013), as part of the CASA exchange, followed by, Ronald de Buck speaking at the Kent dissemination event last December. Then, in May this year, a Kent delegation of a group of residential care home managers and KCC staff attended a three day secondment to Weverbos hosted by Ronald De Buck and his team. So impressed were delegates by the innovative, yet practical, models of care, support and good practice witnessed at Weverbos that KCC have invited Ronald De Buck, and his team over here to Kent today to share those innovations with you.
