Closures and diversions
The Coen Tunnel (both the old and the new) will be completely closed to all traffic during the roadworks. Rijkswaterstaat
will also be closing the section of the A10 West north of the junction with S102 (Basisweg) up to the Coen Tunnel. Traffic will
be diverted through the Zeeburger Tunnel. Road signs will be put in place indicating the recommended alternative routes.
Alternative transport
Rijkswaterstaat is advising road users to take public transport. And we are providing the ‘vanAnaarBeter’ travel card which
will entitle you to a discount on train travel.
The vanAnaarBeter train card is valid in both directions from 17 to 20 July for the following rail journeys:
• Purmerend - Amsterdam CS;
• Uitgeest – Zaandam - Amsterdam CS;
• Amsterdam CS - Schiphol.
Using your OV travel card (OV-chipkaart), you can buy a vanAnaarBeter card for a single journey from the ticket machine or
ticket office at any train station. For your return journey, you will need to buy another single ticket. A single ticket (2nd class)
costs €1.30. You will find more information (in Dutch) about purchasing tickets, and when you can use the vanAnaarBeter
card on www.vanAnaarBeter.nl.
Extra shuttle buses between Amsterdam Sloterdijk station & Westpoort industrial estate
In addition to the travel card, Rijkswaterstaat and Stichting Westpoort Bereikbaar will be laying on extra shuttle buses on
Thursday 17 July and Friday 18 July, between Amsterdam Sloterdijk station and Westpoort industrial estate. The free shuttle
buses will run between 06.00 - 10.00 and 15.00 - 19.00. You will find full details of the timetable and a map of both routes on
www.wbus.nl.

The new road layout
Improvements to the Coen Tunnel Route include the addition of a reversible Traffic Flow section, consisting of 2 extra
lanes that can be opened in whichever direction has the most traffic. Usually, traffic is busiest going southwards during
the morning rush hour, and northwards during the evening rush hour. To find out more about the various routes
