La Première Guerre mondiale bouleverse la vie quotidienne des
populations civiles. Loin du front, les Bruxellois subissent un régime
d’occupation oppressant. Au même moment, les habitants des villes
allemandes s’organisent pour soutenir l’effort de guerre. L’heure est
à la défense du pays.
Comment s’adapte-t-on à cette situation exceptionnelle de part et
d’autre de la frontière ? Découvrez au fil de l’exposition une histoire
comparée de la guerre.
The First World War turned daily life upside down for the civilian
population. Far from the front, the people of Brussels were subjected
to an oppressive regime by occupation forces. At the same time,
residents of German cities were organising themselves to support
the war effort. It was time to defend the country.
How would we adapt to this exceptional situation on either side of
the border? Discover in the course of the exhibition a compared
history of the war.

Der Erste Weltkrieg erschüttert den Alltag der Zivilbevölkerung.
Fernab der Front leiden die Brüsseler unter einem erdrückenden
Besatzungsregime. Zur selben Zeit organisieren sich die Einwohner
der deutschen Städte, um die Kriegsleistung zu unterstützen. Dort
hat die Stunde der Verteidigung des Landes geschlagen.

De Eerste Wereldoorlog zet het dagelijkse leven van de burgerbevolking
danig op zijn kop. De Brusselaars gaan ver van het front gebukt onder
het bewind van de bezetter. Op hetzelfde ogenblik organiseren de
inwoners van de Duitse steden zich om de oorlogsinspanning te
steunen. De verdediging van het land staat voorop.
Hoe gaat men aan weerszijden van de grens met deze uitzonderlijke
situatie om? Ontdek het doorheen de tentoonstelling die de oorlog
vanuit een vergelijkend perspectief belicht.
