One health symposium
FOCUS on STEC - HUSEC
One health symposium FOCUS
on STEC - HUSEC
11 December 2014 / 10:00 - 17:00 / UMCG Groningen
Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) pose a serious
public health concern because of its ability to cause outbreaks,
hemorrhagic colitis, and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
STEC causing HUS are designated as HUSEC or EHEC. EHEC are
subtypes of STEC and became broadly visible in the public due
to the large outbreak in 2011 in Germany. A multidisciplinary
team of European researchers will inform you on the latest
developments in the field of STEC – EHEC – HUSEC.
Central topics will be modern diagnostics, clinical management,
public health & environment as well as research. In 2013
a multidisciplinary studygroup, called STEC-ID-net, was
implemented in the Netherlands in order to study STEC and
EHEC microbiology, epidemiology and the clinical impact. The
results of this study will be presented during this symposium.
Our aim is to stimulate the interest of young investigators for
this important one health topic.
