We will be adding new content in the near future. We’re planning an English version alongside the Dutch version and we’d like to ask for volunteers to help with translation. If you can help please send an email to: [email protected] Groep 7-8 Workshops After the autumn break (herfstvakantie), workshops for pupils who are looking for an extra challenge will begin. The teacher and internal tutor (Intern Begeleider) will assess which pupils from groups 7 and 8 will attend them. The workshops will be given by various parents and the sister of one of our pupils. The choice this year is between: Spanish, Maths, Greek Mythology and Chinese. There will also be a short workshop on meteorology. This year there are lots of pupils that we would like to offer a workshop to and it would be great if we could add more workshops. In the past we had Philosophy and we’re hoping that someone can step in and provide this again ? Other ideas are also welcome, e.g. Creative Writing (Creatief met Taal), Italian, drama etc. Whoever would like to give a workshop can let the teacher know or contact Ina Harinck. We’re hoping for lots of offers ! Groep 5-6 Techniek en Wetenschap IIn November the theme for groups 5 and 6 is “Science and Technology” (Techniek en Wetenschap). We’ll be doing lots of fun experiments and tests in class, including using the ‘techniekdozen’ (technology kits) from the ‘techniektorens’ in the aula. We will also present a difficult (physics) problem in the aula that the children will have to solve in the class using experiments. The theme concludes on Friday the 28th November and when bringing the children to school on that day, the parents are invited to come to the class and marvel at what has been learned. If any parents would like to come and tell something about Science and Technology or do an experiment with the kids, we’d love to hear ! Groep 3-4 Theatervoorstelling ‘Konijn gezocht’ The pupils from groups 3 and 4 will see the play ‘Konijn gezocht’ in the week starting on the 10th November. The performance will take place at school and is organised by Werkgroep Kijk|Kunst Oegstgeest. Before and after the performance the pupils will work on activities related to the play. We’re already looking forward to it ! Groep 3-4 Herfstwandeling On Friday 17th October, before the autumn break, all group 3 and 4 pupils went to the Oud Poelgeest park. The weather was excellent and each group took a Bingo card to tick off objects of interest in the woods. For example, a maple leaf, an acorn, a mushroom and a spider. We also collected lots of leaves etc. to bring back and discuss. It was a fun and educational outing. Many thanks to all parents who came along to help ! Groep 1-2 Herfst In groups 1 and 2 we’re working on the theme “Autumn”. This is a theme that reflects the experiences of the children as they see the natural world change around them. The pupils have been asked to bring in things related to the theme that they have at home or that they have found themselves. The teacher will use the collected objects to discuss the theme in an engaging and personal way. The aims of this theme are as follows: 1. The children learn why leaves fall in autumn and that leaves come in a variety of shapes and sizes. 2. The children learn the names of 3 types of mushroom. 3. The children learn that fruits ripen in autumn and learn the names of various fruits. 4. The children learn that the weather changes in autumn. 5. The children learn that mushrooms can be poisonous and learn technical terms related to mushrooms: spores (sporen), gills (plaatjes), stalk (steel), cap (hoed). Before the autumn break we went for an autumn walk (herfstwandeling). The children went in small groups to identify places in the woods that appeared in a set of photos and came across different types of mushroom, leaf and fruit.
