In addition, your education might not give direct access to your choice of study programme and you have to sit one or more university entrance examinations (for example English or mathematics). In both cases, the VU University offers a unique opportunity to prepare for those examinations through its foundation year (VASVU) and the VU Dutch Academy (VU-NT2). claSSeS In the VASVU you will attend classes in those subjects that are required for your study programme. For those preparing for medical or science-related programmes (except computer science and mathematics) it involves the subjects Dutch, English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. For others: Dutch, English, mathematics and history. On top of that, there is attention for study & computer skills and orientation on the Dutch society. dUtch Dutch language classes are either at the VASVU or at VUNT2. Both will prepare for level B2. This level is required for the State Exam Dutch NT2-II. At VU-NT2 you may start each period at each level. You may start with other subjects in the VASVU after level 1 (= level A2) or level 2 (= level B1). examinationS After completing all levels, you will sit the State Exam Dutch as a second language, programme II. The other subjects will be concluded with the entrance examinations of the VU University. If you pass all examinations, you can start with your study programme in September 2015. StUdY loadS Preparing for a study is a fulltime activity. There are 15 to 25 hours of classes each week. Each hour of class requires about one hour of homework. This means that you will need five days a week for classes and studying. activitieS dUring the vaSvU Year to prepare YoU For the UniverSitY • M entoring:you will have a mentor. She or he will provide extra guidance concerning the foundation year and study plans. • Information: you will receive information about your future study programme and you attend introductory activities of the various study programmes. • MeetingswithVU-students: you will meet former VASVU students, now studying at the university and study advisors from the faculties providing useful tips and tricks. • Excursions: there are two educational excursions each year. Step 2: taking an entrY teSt With a written and in some cases an oral test in Dutch, your level will be assessed and we will establish the most suitable course for you. This does not apply to absolute beginners. entry to the vaSvU Everyone will take the entry tests in Dutch, English and Step 3: receiving an e-mail After assessing the results, you will receive an e-mail. This will tell you in which level of Dutch you have been placed, whether you can start with the VASVU and how to pay. mathematics. The VASVU lasts a full academic year, therefore entry in June or August is strongly recommended. The dates of the entry tests are given on the website. voorBereiden op een opleiding aan de vrije UniverSiteit (vU) een opleiding aan de vU Als U een buitenlandse vooropleiding heeft en u wilt een Nederlandstalige bacheloropleiding of een pre-masteropleiding volgen, dan moet u slagen voor het Staatsexamen NT2, programma 2 (Staatsexamen NT2-II). En als u niet direct toegang heeft tot een opleiding, dan moet u ook slagen voor één of meer universitaire toelatingsexamens (bijvoorbeeld Engels of Wiskunde). In beide gevallen biedt de Vrije Universiteit een unieke mogelijkheid om u voor te bereiden op deze examens met het Voorbereidend jaar Anderstalige Studenten (VASVU) en de VU Academy (VU-NT2). vakken In het VASVU volgt u lessen in de vakken die u nodig heeft voor de opleiding die u heeft gekozen. Wie medische of exacte opleidingen (behalve informatica en wiskunde) wil studeren, krijgt Nederlands, Engels, wiskunde, natuurkunde, scheikunde en biologie. Wie een andere opleiding wil studeren volgt Nederlands, Engels, wiskunde en geschiedenis. Bovendien is er veel aandacht voor studie- & computervaardigheden en oriëntatie op de Nederlandse samenleving. nederlandS Het vak Nederlands volgt u bij het VASVU of bij VU-NT2. VASVU en VU-NT2 leiden allebei op tot niveau B2. Dat is het niveau dat u nodig heeft voor het Staatsexamen NT2-II. Bij VU-NT2 kunt u in elke periode beginnen met elk niveau. Als u ook andere vakken dan Nederlands wilt volgen, dan doet u na niveau 1 (= niveau A2) of niveau 2 (= niveau B1) het VASVU. afgesloten met de toelatingsexamens van de VU. Stap 2: U doet een intaketoetS Met een mondelinge en eventueel schriftelijke intaketoets Nederlands bepalen wij uw niveau en de geschikte cursus voor u. Als u nog geen Nederlands spreekt, doet u geen toets. intaketoetsen bij het vaSvU Iedereen doet de intaketoetsen Nederlands, Engels en wiskunde. Voor exacte en medische opleidingen zijn er ook Stap 3: U ontvangt een e-mail Na beoordeling van uw resultaten, ontvangt u een e-mail. Daarin staat op welk niveau Nederlands u bent ingedeeld, of u met het VASVU kunt starten en hoe u kunt betalen. intaketoetsen natuurkunde en scheikunde. Het VASVU is een jaarcursus, dus de intake in juni of augustus is gewenst. Soms kunt u ook later in het jaar bij het VASVU starten.
