SEMESTER BUSINESS INTERNSHIP ABROAD Program profile Long-term program oriented towards international students with advanced level of Spanish, who are interested in having an internship experience abroad from an intercultural approach. The program provides academic and cultural learning opportunities in order to develop intercultural understanding, leadership skills, tolerance for ambiguity among others. Services included Academic offer: The Program includes an internship experience with a course related and - optionally- other courses. INTERNSHIP The places available are for internships at startup and entrepreneurs at Business Incubator Chrysalis located in Valparaíso/ Viña del Mar cities. All students must fulfill 90 hours of work at the institution during the program; along with it there is a course taught at the University (30 contact hours) that will provide students with the necessary context and knowledge. If the student only takes the internship (without including other courses) he/she will has 4 PUCV credits to transfer. Roles, who is who? During the process of the internship experience, there are some roles and persons that are crucial. It’s very important to define these roles clearly in order to assist and provide help in the best way possible. - University supervisor: person in charge of the overall program. - Teacher: person in charge of the academic supervision of the BI. This person will give the class, contextualized about Chilean environment and evaluate the student with test, essay and final presentation (60% of the final grade). - Mentor: Person at Chrysalis that will mentor the student in the process. The mentor will also evaluate the student, with an evaluation form, that will be provided by the University Supervisor (40% of the final grade). -Entrepreneur: Person that is the owner of a startup. The student will have to work with him/her performing different activities that the mentor decides. - Student: Student taking part of the Business Internship program will be working in Chrysalis and be assigned to a specific startup. Course description This theoretical and practical course will introduce students to the Chilean ecosystem to support entrepreneurs. It will also present validation methodologies and modern development startup that students are expected to implement the startup that they support. Students are expected to integrate the work that each entrepreneurial team developed with the support of the business incubator. The business incubator Chrysalis has been rated one of the top 25 business incubator in the world, as ranked Ubindex, published in August 2014. The theoretical part will consist of interactive lectures to be carried out to complement the student practices in a startup. Along with the above, meeting one-on-one relationship between students and the instructor of the course in which academic and cultural aspects of the final project review will be conducted.
