Luis Fernando Alarcón
Profile
Civil engineer from the Universidad de los Andes with graduate
studies in economics at the same university and a Master’s of
Science in civil engineering from MIT. Alarcón has a broad
background in management and strategy.
Alarcón has served as the General Manager of Interconexión Eléctrica S.A.-ISA-, the CEO of
Asofondos de Colombia and of the Flota Mercante Grancolombiana. During Virgilio Barco Vargas’s
presidency, Alarcón was Ministro de Hacienda (Finance Minister) and later Executive Director of the
Inter-American Development Bank. He has been a member of the boards of directors of renowned
companies such as Avianca, Banco de Bogotá, Bolsa de Valores de Colombia, ISA, Bavaria, Caracol
S. A., Cafesalud, Valores Bavaria and Caracol Televisión.
He is currently president of the Board of Directors of Grupo Sura, a member of the Board of Directors
of Riopaila-Castilla S.A. and a member of the Directors’ Council of the Universidad de los Andes.
