ii jornadas de jóvenes investigadores en biomedicina

VI YOUNG RESEARCHERS’ MEETING
The IMIBIC, through its Training and Postgraduate Course Committee is
hosting the 6th Young Researchers’ Meeting, aimed at fostering the interaction and
exchange of knowledge between the youngest researchers of the biomedical field in
Cordoba.
These conferences will proceed with the atmosphere of previous years,
promoting translational research and raising awareness regarding health issues. We
intend to encourage interdisciplinarity and quality training by sharing the results
obtained by our youngest researchers.
The conferences share these common objectives:




Create an atmosphere to allow knowledge and experience exchange among
young researchers regarding a health issue.
Promote the interaction and reinforcement of bonds between the staff in the
different research groups, favouring relationships after the meeting.
Foster and support quality training for the youngest researchers.
Proceed with this annual symposium that is a key reference for the whole
research community and, above all, for the young researchers of the IMIBIC.
Date and Place
The conferences are to be held on May 4-5, at the assembly room of the
IMIBIC.
Addressees
The conferences are aimed at the whole staff of the biomedical field of
Córdoba, as well as students of the second cycle of related degrees, giving a special
role to young researchers. Consequently, PhD students of two or more years,
medical interns and Post-Doctoral professionals will give the presentations
preferently. Following these objectives, we try to foster the interaction and
knowledge exchange among the youngest researchers in the groups of the
biomedical field in Córdoba. Thus, researchers who are responsible of each group
are kindly asked to motivate their members to submit their contributions to the
conferences.
The Conferences
The Committee will organise four sessions which will bring together the
IMIBIC’s five scientific programmes. However, the Committee reserves the right to
join different sessions depending on the number of presentations received. The
scientific programmes are as follow:
1
- Active ageing and fragility.
- Nutrition, endocrine and metabolic diseases.
- Infectious and Immunological diseases. Organ transplantation.
- Cancer (Oncology and Oncohematology)
- Chronic and inflammatory diseases.
Each session will include oral communications, each one of 12 minutes plus
3 minutes of questions, together with a short final debate in order to allow
interaction between participants. In parallel, a posters showcase will take place,
which will be also organised on the basis of the scientific programmes previously
described.
Additionally, a plenary presentation will be given by Dr. Rafael Duarte (46),
who is currently responsible for the Division of Myeloid Leukaemia and Director of
the Haematopoietic Cell Transplantation Programme at the Catalan Institute of
Oncology. Dr Duarte has also worked in renowned centres, such as the Royal Free
Hospital of London, the Anthony Nolan Research Institute or the Harvard Medical
School. He is Chairman of the Complications and Quality of Life Working Party of the
European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Dr Duarte is also part of
the panel of several international scientific committees and has more than 80
international publications, with a high rate of first and last authorship (48%). Dr.
Rafael Duarte is also the author of a patent of a genetically-modified cell line in coauthorship with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston, who is currently
licensed by Bayer.
This year, we will have a presentation about the scientific path for young
researchers in biomedicine by Dr. Alvaro Roldan Lopez, from the Institute of
Health Carlos III (ISCIII). Dr. Roldán will speak about the different opportunities
offered by the ISCIII to start or consolidate a scientific career for young researchers
in biomedicine, and will review the Health Research and Development Strategy and
the current financial lines of the Institute. This topic is especially important for MIR
(Internal Medical Residents) who are about to end their training as specialists, as it
may be an excellent opportunity to combine a medical position with a scientific
career in the National Health System.
Registration. Oral Communication and Poster
Registration is free and compulsory to attend the conferences. Any candidate
to present a communication, both oral and poster, must be a predoctoral researcher
or a first-year or second-year postdoctoral researcher.
The oral communications will be included in one of the scientific
programmes according to the author’s preferences. Each oral communication will
last for a maximum of 12 minutes. The poster showcase will also be included in
relation to the scientific programmes according to the author’s preferences.
2
Both oral and poster communications will be submitted in the registration
web address at the end of the document, following the described indications. Given
the positive experience of previous years, both oral and poster communications will
be given in English. Those communications submitted after the deadline will not be
accepted for evaluation. Registration and communication information will be
accepted until 10th April.
In the case of poster presentation, the size of the font must be big and clear
enough to be read from a 2 m distance. The poster must be vertical and will be 150
cm high x 95 cm wide maximum size.
Due to the limited number of oral and poster communications, the Scientific
Committee of the Conferences will choose the best according to a series of criteria
of scientific quality. Regarding poster communications, the Committee will choose 6
to opt for the Award to the best presentation in the Conferences. The 6 chosen
presentations will give a short public presentation to the Scientific Committee the
day of the Conferences, as well as the other selected.
Awards
In order to motivate and boost quality presentations, IMIBIC presents 4
awards of 600 € to the best oral presentations (one per session). One of these
researchers will receive the best presentation award too.
A special award of the same quantity to the best research work with a
translational character, and another special award to the best research work
presented by a Medical Resident*. Likewise, another two awards of 200 € will be
given to the best poster communications. The Scientific Committee of the
Conferences will decide on the awards. Cash prizes are personal and should be used
for training and learning purposes.
*You can find below the basis of the award to the best research work presented by
a medical resident.
