Helpful response ideas to verbal insults part 1 How do you treat people like a friend when they are mean to you? The single most important thing is to refuse to get angry or upset. Keep your reaction calm and show that you are resilient by using an assertive response. The following are some winning responses to handle verbal insults that your child can use: Thank you for noticing. It’s so nice of you to care about me. Others have told me that before. Do you think there is anything I can do about it? That’s been bothering me for a long time too. Please, tell me more. Is there something I did to make you mad? Not everyone has the courage to talk to me that honestly. I have big ears? Thanks, I thought they were looking a little mousey today! *Whenever you are having a problem with someone, remember the golden rule and to treat others like a friend even if they are being mean to you. You do not have to become friends with your enemy, but you still need to be nice to them. By doing so, you will always be a winner. **Remember to respond in a way without sarcasm or saying something mean back to the other person.
