Divine Mercy Sunday

Chaplet will be prayed at 3pm
In 1933, God gave Sister Faustina a striking vision of His
Mercy, Sister tells us: "I saw a great light, with God the Father
in the midst of it. Between this light and the earth I saw Jesus
nailed to the Cross and in such a way that God, wanting to look
upon the earth, had to look through Our Lord's wounds and I understood that God blessed
the earth for the sake of Jesus."
Of another vision on Sept. 13, 1935, she writes: "I saw an Angel, the executor of God's
wrath... about to strike the earth...I began to beg God earnestly for the world with words
which I heard interiorly. As I prayed in this way, I saw the Angel's helplessness, and he
could not carry out the just punishment...."
The following day an inner voice taught her to say this prayer on ordinary rosary beads:
"First say one 'Our Father', 'Hail Mary', and 'I believe'. Then on the large beads say the
following words: ‘Eternal Father, I offer Y ou the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity
of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and
those of the whole world.' On the smaller beads you are to say the following words:
'For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.' In
conclusion you are to say these words three times: 'Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy
Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world'.
Jesus said later to Sister Faustina: "Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you.
Anyone who says it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites this
Chaplet even once, will receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I want the whole world to
know My Infinite Mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to those who trust in My
Mercy...When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My
Father and the dying person not as the just judge but as the Merciful Savior".

RCIA is a Journey of Conversion for those wanting to be Catholic, those needing to complete
their sacraments, or for anyone wanting to learn
more about the Catholic Faith.
The greatest symbol of resurrection is not the Easter lily or
the Easter egg. It is not the empty cross or the Pascal lamb. The
most awe-inspiring symbol of Easter is the empty tomb! Why the
empty tomb? Because the empty tomb holds the truth about the
Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promise that each one of us
will rise to eternal life. The empty tomb means that we no longer
need to fear death because Christ defeated death. St. Paul tells us
in Romans 6:8-9, “If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe
that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from
the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him.” The
tomb is empty!
Easter is the greatest and oldest Christian feast,
which celebrates Christ’s resurrection from the dead.
Easter is the feast of feasts, the solemnity of solemnities, the Greatest Sunday. Christians prepare for it
during Lent and Holy Week, and catechumens usually receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation,
Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil.

Más que un hombre Bueno. La primera lectura de este Día solemne
y bello nos sorprende con su intenso realismo. Dice Pedro: "comimos
y bebimos con él, después que resucitó de entre los muertos". La primera
y fundamental afirmación de este Día grande es que el Cuerpo del
Resucitado es real. Su Cuerpo es real, realísimo, y POR ESO sabemos que
su Resurrección es real, realísima. Estas afirmaciones resultan conocidas y
obvias para la mayor parte del pueblo cristiano, pero lamentablemente no
son todavía la fe común. Hay teólogos que con razones especiosas creen
poder afirmar que la Resurrección del Señor fue ante todo un hecho
"espiritual", entendiendo espiritual como "independiente de los datos de
los sentidos". Según ellos, como se han atrevido a decir, si se encontrara el
cadáver de Cristo lo esencial de nuestra fe estaría a salvo, porque lo que
creemos se sintetiza en el amor y el servicio a los hermanos, como lo practicó Jesús. Es lo que también predican los Testigos de Jehová. Frente a
este modo de reducir a Cristo a un buen predicador del amor mutuo está el
realismo casi crudo de Pedro en la primera lectura de hoy: "comimos y
bebimos con él, después que resucitó de entre los muertos". Quien así
habla, ¿sabía que existía un cadáver de Jesús Crucificado pudriéndose en
algún rincón de Palestina? ¿Lo sabía y lo ocultaba, o lo ignoraba y decía
sus deseos hablando en voz alta? ¿Eso de "comimos y bebimos" era una
alucinación, un engaño que otros le habían causado... o quizá algo que él
había buscado supuestamente para no regresar a la vida dura de pescador
en Galilea, según enseñaron algunos protestantes liberales? ¿Prefirió
entonces Pedro ser perseguido, calumniado, torturado y finalmente muerto
con tal de sostener algo que él supuestamente sabía que era mentira?
¡Hasta dónde puede llegar el absurdo de la mente humana cuando quiere
mediar a Dios y a su poder con sus solos recursos y teorías!

Escuela Pre-Escolar y “Mother’s Morning Out”:
¿Por qué tenía que resucitar? Pedro asegura la verdad del Cuerpo del
Resucitado. ¿Por qué es tan importante? ¿No basta acaso, como quieren
aquellos teólogos liberales, con afirmar que Cristo fue sincero, bueno,
coherente y que nos ha mostrado un camino de solidaridad y servicio hasta
el extremo? ¿Qué le agrega la resurrección corporal de Cristo a todo su
mensaje, que de por sí es fuerte, bello y capaz de reconstruir a los seres
humanos y a la sociedad? Nadie discute que predicar de un modo
consecuente la bondad entre los seres humanos es una cosa buena. Es algo
que de hecho ha practicado mucha gente de muy diversos tiempos, culturas y... religiones. Tampoco hay que discutir si Cristo hizo eso. El punto es
si la misión de Cristo se reduce a eso y si eso sólo explica el modo de su
muerte. No olvidemos que el Señor tuvo muchas oportunidades de
escabullirse de la espantosa muerte que veía venir. Si la vida humana la
consideramos únicamente en términos de la realidad que alcanzan a ver
nuestros ojos, es decir, en términos de lo "intramundano", nada necesitamos más allá de una buena y sensata predicación que nos ayude a no
ser perversos y a tratar de ser solidarios. Para eso no se necesitaba un nacimiento virginal, ni milagros, ni exorcismos, ni mucho menos los padecimientos atroces de la Cruz. Confucio, Buda o Mahoma hablaron con elocuencia sobre aprender a ser buenos, pacientes, mansos, puros... y hay
incluso ateos que nos han dado discursos bien hilados sobre estas materias. Sartre decía que el existencialismo (ateo) era un modo supremo de
humanismo. Las cosas cambian cuando descubrimos que la vida sobre esta
tierra no es todo; cuando entendemos que la maldad no es un problema
solamente de disfuncionalidad social que puede repararse agrupando
buenas intenciones. La maldad ejerce poder y tiene encanto, y para
muchas personas, incluidos nosotros, en muchas situaciones ha resultado
que ser malo es deseable, provechoso e incluso deleitable. Todo el Antiguo Testamento es la historia de cómo el bien sensato, condensado en los
Diez Mandamientos, finalmente no logra abrirse paso porque el corazón
humano es incomprensible en sus arranques de codicia, envidia, soberbia,
estupidez o capacidad de crueldad. El misterio de ese mal que es absurdo
y sin embargo poderoso, que nos hace daño y sin embargo nos reporta
beneficios, nos obliga a bucear en nuestras almas y no contentarnos con
una nación ingenua del mal, como si hacer el mal fuera siempre un asunto

la que nos conduce a la pregunta ineludible para toda razón depsierta:
"¿cuál es el sentido de mi vida?". En efecto, si nuestras tareas y esfuerzos
no parecen cambiar sustancialmente las cosas, pues a un gobierno le sigue
otro y a una moda otra y a un amante otro, ¿para qué es la vida? ¿Tengo
que soportar sin más la bofetada de la muerte y rendirme a su imperio?
¿Soy una sombra que persigue fantasías, soy una "pasión inútil"? ¿Para
qué sirve pensar: únicamente para descubrir que puedo ver lo que podría
ser y no será, y puedo entender lo que podría tener y jamás poseeré? ¿Hay
tortura más amarga, hay suplicio más absurdo?

Divine Mercy Sunday Plenary Indulgence
Pascua y Cruz. Como se ve el problema del mal nos conduce al problema
de la muerte, que con otras palabras es el problema del sentido de la vida.
Y si Cristo fue sólo un predicador más de las bondades de que vivamos en
paz, comprensión y solidaridad, ¡qué muerte tan tonta la suya! ¡Qué insensatez dejarse escupir, azotar y crucificar! Para decirnos que era bueno ser
buenos, cosa que cualquiera admite con su mente, Cristo hubiera podido
dedicarse a coleccionar pensamientos bellos y bien redactados como Confucio, y no era preciso que llegara a la Cruz. La Cruz de Cristo agudiza
hasta el paroxismo el tema del sentido de la vida. He aquí un hombre bueno, sincero, puro, generoso, sabio... retorciéndose de dolor y asfixia en un
madero frente a la mirada impasible, burlona y desalmada de sus peores
enemigos. ¿No es eso el resumen de nuestra angustia? ¿No es Cristo en la
Cruz el grito agónico que nos nace del alma cuando queremos ser bondadosos y coherentes, y a la vez nos preguntamos si ello podría valer la
pena? El destino del Crucificado nos interesa sobremanera porque nos
interesa qué le pasa al que quiere ser consecuentemente bueno. Si toda
bondad acaba en el polvo, si de los bienes sólo quedan recuerdos que harán
que otros intenten ser buenos para también disolverse en el polvo, ¿qué
clase de "buena nueva" es esa? ¿Qué estamos predicando? ¿Anunciamos
un bien impotente cuyo único triunfo es que otros intenten esa misma impotencia? ¡Vana sería nuestra fe!, grita san Pablo (1 Cor 15,14). Vemos,
en efecto, que los esfuerzos y las buenas intenciones no terminan de sanear
este mundo y nos ponemos a predicar que hay que seguirlo intentando,
aunque no haya resultados y aunque nuestra herencia sea el silencio polvoriento del sepulcro. ¡Triste y engañosa, inhumana y falsa sería una
religión que tal pretendiera! Si el Crucificado se ha quedado en la tumba,
allá deben quedar nuestros mejores sueños y nuestras fatuas esperanzas,
porque si él no ha cambiado nada en el destino final de los hombres, nada
queda tampoco sino "comamos y bebamos que mañana moriremos". Sobre
el cadáver de Cristo, si tal fuera el caso, nada hay para celebrar sino la
carcajada descompuesta de la muerte. Mas así como la Cruz nos obliga a
apurar el sentido de la Pascua, la Pascua colma de su claridad a la Cruz.

La verdad del Cuerpo de Cristo. El Cuerpo verdadero del Resucitado enseña con su esplendor que la muerte no es la palabra definitiva y que todos
los que pretenden dominarnos produciendo tortura, exclusión, terror o
muerte no serán para siempre los señores de la tierra. Una vez que entendemos que ningún daño definitivo se puede causar a los que apuestan radicalmente por el bien, incluso más allá de su propia vida, entendemos
también la enseñanza del Apóstol, en la segunda lectura de hoy: hemos
resucitado con Cristo, tenemos ya una razón profunda y una fuerza invencible que nos permiten "buscar los bienes de allá arriba". Si la vida sin
esperanza es un largo prefacio de infierno, la vida con la esperanza puesta
en el Resucitado es una degustación de cielo. Como el discípulo amado
hoy somos invitados todos a ver y creer. Palpemos a través de los testigos
inmediatos, gocemos a través de sus ojos asombrados, cantemos a través
de su voz jubilosa: Es verdad; ha resucitado; aleluya, ¡aleluya!

Holy Trinity Parish presents a teaching and exposion of Sacred Relics on Saturday, Sunday, April 12
at 6pm. Father Carlos Marns of the Companions of
the Cross will be here with his very special ministry
to teach about these holy objects. He will bring
with him over 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years.
Among the treasures will be relics of St. Maria
Gore,, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Li0le Flower"),
St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua,
St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Fausna Kowalska.
In addion, there will also be present a poron of
the veil of Our Lady, as well as one of the largest
remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world.
Those in a0endance will be able to examine and
venerate each relic.
In the Church’s history many miracles and healings
have been worked in the presence of relics, and
many have been healed through this ministry.
Please do not miss this opportunity. You are
encouraged to bring your arcles of devoon (such
as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill
friends/family members which you will be able to
touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession.

coming up in March. To encourage early
registration as class sizes are very limited
this year, we will be offering $15 off the
registration fee until May 1. Please note
2015-2016 Faith Formation Classes are
seeking people who would like to enrich
their lives by serving others. Please consider
donating 1.5 hours a week to teach a class
either on Wednesday afternoons or Sunday morning. We
provide all the materials for each class. For more
information, contact the Faith Formation office.
