＜活動概要＞
開催地：近畿大学

＜Workshop＞

事前調査
私たちは、
『成熟都市における再生』を Construction に関連する事例で調査し、資料を作
成した。作成した資料は、ディスカッションまでに ppt を作成した。具体的な内容を以下に
示す。
1.
『成熟都市における再生』のテーマに沿った日本の事例として「大阪駅」を選択
2.
テーマに対する考えを各大学のチームリーダーとメールで相談（英語で）
3.
各大学で案がまとまり次第、資料収集（ppt 作成）

現場見学（日本生命ビル東館、大阪市中央体育館）
免震装置や制振ダンパーなどを生で見ることができました。また、大阪中市央体育館を
構造設計された阿波野教授や岩田教授から建築物の構造計画に関する具体的な解説を聞け
たため、とても勉強になりました。

発表準備・発表
発表準備では、予め各大学がテーマに対し事前調査し、作成したファイルを一つにまと
める作業をしました。また、今年度は大学ごとで作業するのではなく全員で話し合い一つ
の ppt を作りました。
話し合いの中で意見を述べることは、難しいことでした。さらに英語で伝えなければな
らないのでより難しく感じました。しかし、仲間の協力で意見を伝える事ができたため、
話し合いも進み、仲良く話せる仲間も増えました。

運営
今年の ACBC は、近畿大学で開催するため運営の準備をしなければなりません。近畿大
学の学生で運営することは初めてなので分からないことが多く大変でした。また、今年度
は、参加人数が史上最多であったので大人数で街中を移動するのは大変でした。しかし、
近畿大学の学生全員と大阪大学の学生の協力により無事に終わることができました。大勢
の人を動かすことは大変でしたが、とても良い経験になりました。

＜参加者の感想＞
＜参加者 1＞
私は、今回の ACBC で 2 つの事を学びました。一つ目は、日々の努力することの大切さ
です。私は、今回で 2 回目の参加です。昨年、私は、あまり英語で話せませんでした。し
かし、今回もあまり話すことができませんでした。これは、日々の努力が必要だと思いま
した。今後、私は英語や他の事に関して日々努力していこうと思います。
二つ目は、大人数を動かすことの大変さです。今年の ACBC は、近畿大学で行われまし
た。そのため、近畿大学の学生は、ワークショップの運営をしなければなりません。また、
今年の ACBC 参加者数は、過去最多の人数でした。ワークショップ開催前の事前準備や海
外の学生を英語で案内することは大変でしたが、先生方と近大や阪大の学生たちの協力で
無事に終わることができました。
今年のワークショップは、英語漬けの生活だけでなく大人数を動かす運営の経験が出来
たため、昨年と比べ多く学ぶことがありました。今回のワークショップは、私にとって成
長するための良い経験になりました。
＜参加者 2＞
今回の ACBC は、私にとって特別な 3 日間でした。私は、英語を聞き取ることもできず、
話すのも単語しか出ませんでした。しかし、韓国と香港の学生は、気にすることなく話し
掛けてくれました。話を理解するのに時間がかかりましたが、表現を変えながら時間をか
けて説明してくれました。その中で私は一つうれしかった経験がありました。
一日目の帰り道のことです。彼らは、「ホテルへの帰り道が分からない」と言いました。
たったそれだけの言葉を聞くのに 20 分かかりましたが、私はなんとかホテルまで案内しま
した。私は送り届けて帰る途中、後ろから呼ばれました。振り返ると、彼らは飲み物を持
って走って来てくれました。そして、「ありがとう。助かったよ」と言ってくれました。そ
れが今回の中で一番うれしかった瞬間でした。私は、伝えたい気持ちさえあれば伝わるこ
とを学びました。今回の ACBC に参加できてよかったです。
＜参加者 3＞
私は去年に続き、ACBC には二回目の参加です。今年は近畿大学での開催という事もあり、
準備が大変でした。しかし、このようなイベントを開催することの大変さもわかり、いい
経験になりました。今年はワークショップも新しい方法で行い、外国の方たちと話す機会
が増えて良かったと思います。外国の方とやり取りをする機会は普段の生活では中々ある
ことではありません。このようなイベントに参加することで、良い経験が得られると思い
ます。

＜参加者 4＞
今回の ACBC のワークショップで、香港、韓国の学生さん達の思考能力、英語能力、計
算能力、社交能力にとても衝撃を受け、自分の能力が足らないことがよく分かりました。
心からもっと勉強したいと思い、実際に色々な建築をもっと見たいです。
中国に居た時、設計事務所で実務研修を経験したことがあり、建築家に最初の測量から
図面が出来上がるまでを習っていました。中国の工事現場は日本と違っています。日本に
来て今年で４年目ですが、現場の見学は初めてでした。日本の現場ではどこでもきちんと
している仕事風景と最新の耐震技術が見られます。香港の学生さん達に通訳した時、自分
も制震、耐震の原理の勉強になりました。大学では講義や写真で学びましたが、現場を見
るのは初めてでした。
翌日、私たちはグループに分けて、研究した項目を討論しました。私はコンストラクシ
ョンの韓国グループに配属されました。実は、設計と比べ、構造計算は苦手なのですが、
香港、韓国の学生さん達と、苦手な分野の討論ができるのが嬉しかったです。苦手な構造
分野を勉強でき、知識を得ることができました。韓国の学生さんが、私達に調べた建築物
の構造と建て替えを詳しく紹介してくれました。チームのみんなはそれぞれの意見を持ち
より、仕事を分担しながら、最終日のプレゼンテーションの準備をしました。
毎日のスケジュールの工程が終わってから、いろんなところに連れていくことも私の一
つの仕事でした。和食を食べながら、名所を見ることも文化の交流です。今回のワークシ
ョップの機会をいただいて、すごく感謝しています。各国の学生が集まり、みんなが英語
でコミュニケーションをとりました。私は誠実な態度で、知識を求める貪欲さを感じまし
た。これと同時に意気投合する友達がたくさんできました。来年のワークショップも楽し
みです。
＜参加者 5＞
2 日目のディスカッションを終えて、成熟都市にある建物を再生するうえで、色々な問題
があり、その問題はどの国でも共通しているとわかりました。だから、どの国の成熟都市
にも同じような構法によって建てられた建物があるのだと思いました。
3 日目の私の発表はたった 1 分程度でしたが、すごく緊張しました。文や言葉にあわせて
パワーポイントを進めていくのも難しかったです。一人で発表の練習をしているとき、学
生や先生方が何度も話しかけに来てくれました。それによりすごく緊張がほぐれ、雑談を
通して文を完成させなくても単語をつなげるだけでも言いたいことが伝わるということが
わかりました。
ホスト校ということで事前準備や当日の誘導もしましたが、これらの場面でも英語が不
可欠で、普段日本語で話すようなことを英語ではどう表現すれば伝わるのかと悩みっぱな
しでした。ACBC を終えて、英語のできなさを痛感し、今まで学校でならってきた英語では
通用しないと実感しました。言葉が通じるということはすごいことなのだと思いました。

＜ワークショップ詳細＞
■事前調査
“成熟都市の再生”について、Environment の観点から日本でのケースの調査を行い、議論
の準備を行った。その行程を以下に示す。
1.『成熟都市』の定義付けを行い、考えうる問題点をピックアップ
2.『成熟都市の再生』に関する日本での事例を調査
3.その事例について考えをまとめ、英語で資料を作成
■現場見学
日建設計による、日本生命保険相互会社新東館の建て替え工事の現場見学および設計プラ
ンの解説。阿波野教授による大阪市立中央体育館の建築構造の解説。
■発表準備・発表
各国の考えてきた考えや事例をプレゼンし、ディスカッションを行った。しかし、それ
ぞれで作ってきたものを当日に組み合わせるのは困難であったため、大半を作り直すこと
になってしまった。事前にコンタクトを取る時間を取れなかったのが反省すべき点でした。

＜参加者の感想＞
参加者 1）
今回の ACBC は、自分にとって二度目の経験でした。昨年は各国のグループに分かれて
発表の打ち合わせる程度だったのに対し、今回は他国の人とディスカッションして日本の
ケースのプレゼンテーションを作り上げることになり、去年にもまして実務的なコミュニ
ケーションを取ることになりました。日常会話ができるように普段からリスニングや英単
語の勉強を心がけてきたのですが、自分の国の考えや事例を説明しディスカッションする
には経験と教養が足らず、相手を困惑させることが多々ありました。スムーズに会話やデ
ィスカッションするためのボキャブラリーを持っていないことや相手に余計な苦労をかけ
てしまったがすごく悔やまれました。
二度にわたる ACBC への参加は自分にとって貴重な経験であり、今の自分に足りないも
のやこの先に必要になってくるものを知れたいい機会でした。また、英語でのコミュニケ
ーションを自分から心掛けたことや、発表日にプレゼンテーションを行ったことで、積極
性と自信がついたと思います。ここでの経験を活かして、この先の人生でも積極性を持ち、
また視野を広く持って成長していきたいと思います。

ACBC に参加してよかった。もちろん、英語なんてほとんど喋れなかったし、それ故自分
のチームに貢献することができなかったと思っている。ディスカッションに使う英語は桁
外れに難しかった。韓国の皆も英語が大変上手だった。他の多くの日本人も私同様、始め
は惨めな思いをしたのではないか。だが、他の国の皆が想像以上に優しかった。簡単な英
語で話しかけてくれた。
通常以上にコミュニケーションが必要な場だったから気付くことが多くあった。ACBC を
企画してくださった先生方、一緒に準備した日本人、そして韓国
しています。

香港の皆。全てに感謝

ACBC では、私たちは淀屋橋の近くにある建築物に行きました。その建物の設計者は、私
たちに建築に関する多くの知識を教えてくれました。その後で、私たちは建物と都市の開
発について話し合い、従来の建物を保護することがどれほど重要かと気づきました。また
その先に、私たちは都市の開発から環境を保護するべきだとも思いました。
私たちは各々の国の文化について話し、よい友達になりました。外国の建築に関する情
報をこれほど多く知るには、大学生にとってめったにない機会だと思います。ACBC は非常
に面白く有益です。できれば、来年も参加したいと思います。

今回、ACBC に初めて参加しました。香港からの学生さんたちと韓国の学生さん達、また
大阪大学の先輩と一緒に、建築環境や安全などに関する最新の技術を交流しました。三日
間は短かったが、結構楽しかったです。最新の技術だけではなくて、皆一緒に仕事をやっ
ていて、チームワークは大切だと思った。また、国際的コミュニケーションは英語が大事
だということも分かってきました。今後の目標もできました。

テーマ：超高層ビルを狙う長周期地震の対策と建設

〈Workshopについて〉
□ 準備
ACBC開催前に予め議論に対する準備を行った。
その工程を以下に示す。
1．各大学と連絡を取り、発表内容を決め、その内容に沿って資料を作成。
2．個々の分担を決め、英語での資料作成。
□ 特別講演、現場見学
日建設計による、日本生命保険相互会社新東館の建て替え工事の現場見学と講義。
阿波野先生による、大阪市中央体育館の建築における構造解説。
□ 発表準備
調べた事例をまず発表し、各国が今回のテーマについて、具体的にどのような意見を持
っているのかを把握しあった。そして、その意見をどのような形で組み合わせ、プレゼン
するかを話し合い、協力し合って資料を作成した。資料の準備はある程度できていたが、
もう少しコミュニケーション能力があればよかったと思う。

最後に、発表の審査による結果発表とパーティーが行われました。そこで、各人それぞ
れが、今回のACBCの最後の思い出を作りました。

〈参加者の感想〉
（参加者1）
ACBCは、自分にとって本当に良い勉強になった。普段話さない英語で、他の国の人間と
コミュニケーションを取り、課題作成に取り組んだことは、今後どこかで役に立つと思う。
ただ、残念だったのは、私にはあまり語学力がなかったため、留学生に頼ることが多かっ
た。もし、英語が話せていたなら、もっと自分の考えを相手に伝えることもできたし、ま
た、相手の考えも聞くことができた。来年、もう一度ACBCに参加するチャンスがある。そ
の時までに、なんとか彼らの言葉が聞けるようになりたい。

近畿大学での開催だったので、準備作業が多く大変でした。準備時間も少なく人手不足
だったがみんなで手分けして終えることができました。
他大学とのメールのやり取りや発表内容の準備は積極的に取り組めたと思います。メー
ルは相手にきちんと伝わるか不安でしたが、返信に感謝の気持ちが書かれているのを見る
と嬉しくなり、安心できました。また、英語での会話やアナウンスなど、貴重な経験がで
きました。
とにかくきちんと最後までできてよかったです。

今回、2 度目の参加でした。昨年は、主に日本人とだけで発表資料を作成したので、意見
も言い易かった。ただ、今回は一つのテーマを、英語で他の国の人間とコミュニケーショ
ンを取りながらの作成だったので、大変でした。けれど、訓練の効果もあって、昨年以上
に聴き取れるようになっていたので、若干、うれしかったです。この経験を、次は社会に
出た際に、役立てられたらと思います。

今回、初めての ACBC に参加しました。最初は、異国の人ということもあって、緊張し
ていました。けれど、会ってみると皆いい人たちで、楽しい 3 日間を過ごすことができま
した。また、英語での会話という事もあって緊張していましたが、気づかないうちに英語
には慣れていたみたいで、言っていることがわからないということは、ほとんどありませ
んでした。むしろ、日本人の先生が話していた言葉が英語だったと知って驚きました。ま
た、機会があれば、彼らにあってみたいと思います。

Preliminary study
The investigation in the case related to Construction "Urban renaissance in a mature city",
we have created a document. The materials that you create, you have created a ppt by
discussion. I is shown in the following specific contents.
1.
Select "Osaka Station" as an example of Japan in line with the theme of "Urban
renaissance in a mature city"
2.
Consultation by e-mail and team leader of each university the idea for the theme
3.
As soon as the draft is unity in each university, collecting data (ppt created)

Site tours
I was able to see live and vibration damper and seismic isolation system. In addition,
because it was able to hear commentary about specific structure plan of the building from
Iwata and Professor Awano that is the structural design of Osaka city center gymnasium, it
is now learned a lot.

Preparation and presentation announcement
In the presentation preparation, each university pre-study for the theme in advance, we
have to work to put together into one file that you created. In addition, I made a ppt of
discussion one in all but instead of working at the University each year.
Able to express their opinions in the discussion was that difficult. I felt more difficult
because it must be communicated in English further. However, because it was able to pass
an opinion with the help of fellow, fellow discussion also go, speak get along was also
increased.

Management
The ACBC of this year, you must be ready for operation to be held in Kinki University. That
you do not know to be operated by students of Kinki University is the first time was quite a lot.
In addition, this year, to move the city in a large number of people was very number of
participants was so record number. However, I was able to successfully end the cooperation
of students of Osaka University and all students of Kinki University. Able to run a lot of
people were hard, but it was a very good experience.

＜Comments of the participants＞
＜Participant 1＞
I have experienced two things in this ACBC. The first is the importance of the effort of every
day. I am participating for the second time at this time. Last year, I did not speak in English
too. However, it was not able to speak too much this time. I think this is, the need for
day-to-day effort. I think the future, I will let every day effort with respect to that of the English
or other.
The second is difficult it is to move a large number of people. ACBC of this year, was held
at Kinki University. Therefore, students of Kinki University, must be the management of the
workshop. In addition, ACBC number of participants this year was the number of the largest
ever. Be guided by the English overseas students and preparation of workshop before was
hard, but I was able to come to a safe conclusion in cooperation with students of Osaka
University and Kinki University and teachers.
Workshops this year, because it was able to experience operational to move large numbers
as well as life of learning English, there was to learn more compared to last year. This
workshop, was a good experience for me to grow.
＜Participant 2＞
This ACBC was three days of a special for me. I could not hear English, and it was over
only a single word to talk. But, Korea and the student of Hong Kong talked without minding it.
I took time to understand a story. They changed the expression and took time and explained
a story to me. I had a nice experience of one in that.
It is a return road of the first day. They said to me , " We do not know the return road to a
hotel". It took 20 minutes to hear it. I understood it. I guided them to a hotel. When I was
about to go home, I was called from behind. Way back, they called to me. They said me it
"thank you". It was the nicest at this ACBC. I learned the importance of telling. I was glad
that I could participate this ACBC.
＜Participant 3＞
I followed last year, is the participation of the second time to ACBC. There is also a thing
called held at Kinki University this year, preparation was very busy. However, to understand
even difficult it is to hold an event like this, it was a good experience. It would be done in a
new way workshops this year, opportunities that we speak with foreign people said it was
good to increase. Opportunity to talk with foreign people countries is not in everyday life. I
think the thing to take part in such events, and obtain good experience.

＜Participant 4＞
In the recent activity of the Asian Coalition for Building Science and Construction
Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and University of Seoul students logic
ability, computing ability and communicative competence made me very shocked with a
deep understanding of my lack of ability from the bottom of my heart I want to learn more
and more and use my eyes to see more and more.
When I was in China I did an internship for about 3 months from land surveying to finished
design charts, with an architect. The domestic construction plant is not the same as Japan.
Since I came to Osaka 4 years ago, it is the first time to visit a construction plant. The
Japanese construction plant, no matter where, it can be seen that work is arranged in good
order and uses shockproof modern technology. I learned the principles of shock and
vibration when in the process of translation to the students from Hong Kong. In school I just
learned some pictures and formulas. The study is the first time to be personally on the
scene.
The next day we discussed our research projects. I was assigned to the Korean group. In
fact, compared with my ability to design. My ability to calculate is not very good. But, I was
very glad to be with Hong Kong and Korean students to participate in the discussion of this
challenging field. This made me learn more and gain more from Korean Students for our
detailed explanation of the construction and reconstruction of the way they look, because
everyone has different opinion. To arrange, the distribution of work. We had to prepare for
the last day of presentation.
A day after the end of the schedule to be their tour guide was also one of my jobs. To eat
Japanese food, visit places of historical interest and scenic beauty was also a kind of
cultural exchange. Though this communication – building opportunity. I gained knowledge
about architecture and I learnt more. The students of the 3 countries worked together.
Although everyone had to communicate in English . I felt the sincere, vitality and knowledge
– seeking desire.
At the time it also let me make many friends, so I am looking forward to next year
conference.

After the discussion of the second day, I knew what there are various risks and it is
common to every country when reproducing the building in a mature city. So, I thought that
there is a building built by the same construction method in the mature city of every country.
My presentation for the third day was about only 1 minute, but I felt nervous. It was difficult
to advance PowerPoint with a sentence or word. When practicing the presentation by

oneself, a lot of students and teachers came to talk to me many times. I therefore loosen up
and knew what it is come across that I want to say only put few words together without
having to complete a sentence by conversation.
Since Kinki University was a host school, we also did advance preparation and directed of
the day. Because English is essential in these situations, I continued to think “How should I
represent in English something like that to talk in Japanese?” After finishing ACBC 2013, I
come home to inability in English, and I realized not pass that English we have learned in
school up to now. I thought great that the language get through to conversational partner.

〈Workshop〉
■Preliminary study
We searched the Japanese case about "Urban renaissance in a mature city" from a
viewpoint of “Environment”, and prepared for the argument.. The distance is showed
following.
1. Define the "Mature City", and Pick up the problems which can be considered
2. Search the example about “Urban renaissance in a mature city”
3. Summarized the idea about the example and created data in English.
■Site visit
Visit to spot of the rebuilding construction of the Nippon Life insurance Co. company new
east hall by Nikken Sekkei.
Explaining about construction of Osaka city central gymnasium by Dr.Awano.
■Preparation of the presentation
We did presentation about the idea and the examples of each country and discussed.
However, since it was difficult to combine with that day what has been made from each, we
will remake the most. It was a reflection point that we couldn't take time to take contact in
advance.

Participant 1)
This ACBC was the second experience for me. Last year, we divided into the group of each
country and arranged the presentation. However, this year, we tried to make the
presentation of the Japanese case by discussing with the students of foreign countries. So,
we needed to take the communication more practical than last year. I had challenged to
study listening and English words so that daily conversation might be possible, but
experience and studying were insufficient for explaining my idea and the example of Japan
and doing the discussion. In this time, I perplexed my partners. I was very regretful that I
didn't have vocabularies to talking and discussing smoothly and perplexed my partners.
The participation in ACBC of 2 times was an experience precious to me, and was the good
opportunity which shows me about an insufficient thing and needed thing on the
future.Moreover, I was able to acquire activeness and confidence by having performed the
presentation at having tried communication in English from oneself, and an announcement
date. I would like to grow up taking advantage of an experience here.
Participant 2)
I’m glad to participate in ACBC. Nothing to say, I couldn’t speak English. Because
I
couldn’t contribution to our teams presentation. English when we use about discussion is too
difficult. And I surprised Korean people speak English very well. Other Japanese were felt
miserable first like me. But other country’s people are very kind. They told me simple
words.
I was aware of something because it needed more difficult English communication than
usual. Professors who planning ACBC, Japanese people who prepared to ACBC with me,
Korean and Hong Kong people. Thank you for everyone.

Participant 3)
In ACBC we went to a construction site near Yodoyabashi. The engineer who built the
building taught us a lot of knowledge on architecture. Then we talked about buildings and
the development of cities. Let us realize how important to protect the traditional buildings.
Then we should protect environment from developing city.
We also talked about the culture of our own countries and became good friends. As a
student in University it is a rare chance to know so much information about foreign
architecture.
ACBC is very interesting and instructive. If it is possible I want to participate next year.
Participant 4)
This is my first time to participate ACBC. We had some communication about the built
environment and safety and exchange some latest technology with the students from Hong
Kong, Korea and Osaka University. It was just took three days, but we were so happy, we
had a great time. From this ACBC I came to know the teamwork is how important when you
do the job with some people others, and the English is how useful during an international
communication. I think I have the next objective from now.

We prepared for the discussion as follows:
1. We contacted each university and decided announcement contents and made a

At first we announced the example that we checked. And we grasped what kind of opinion

document to some extent, but think that there should have been communicative
competence a little more.

Finally result announcement and a party were performed. Therefore each each person
made the last memory of this ACBC.

<Impressions>
Participant 1
ACBC made a really good study for oneself.
In English not to usually speak, I regarded communication as the human being of other
countries and wrestled for problem making. I think that it will be useful somewhere in future.
But I often depended on a foreign student because I did not have much linguistic ability. I
was able to convey it against one's thought if I could speak English. In addition, I was able to
hear the thought of the partner. There will be a chance to participate in once again in ACBC
next year. It is just and wants to come to listen to their words somehow then.
Participant 2
ACBC2013 was held in Kinki University, so we had to do many preparations. We had few
time and member but I shared together and was able to finish.
I think I positively wrestled the exchanges of e-mail with other universities and the
preparations for announcement contents. I felt uneasy whether an e-mail reached the
partner properly, but I was glad and felt relieved because the feeling of thanks was written
for the reply mail. I was able to have a valuable experience, for example a conversation and
the announcement in English. Anyway, it was good that I could finish till the last.
Participant 3
It was the second participation this time. It was easy to say the opinion last year because I
made an announcement document only in Japanese. But we were serious this time
because we had to regard communication as the human being of other countries in English.
However, I was glad of a few because there was the effect of the training and became able
to hear it more than last year. When I appeared in the society, the next thinks this
experience to be made use.
Participant 4
I participated in first ACBC this time. I was tense first because a partner was a foreigner.
However, everybody was good people and was able to spend happy three days when I met.
In addition, because we had to talk in English, I was tense, but it was rare that I did not know
that they said because I was used for English before I noticed. I want to meet them if there is
an opportunity.
