By help of the FSC logo, it is possible to orientate yourself
to make selective purchases of FSC certified products. Furthermore, it serves modern marketing purposes, which satisfy
customers’ requirements for responsibility, equity and protection of the environment.
With this brochure we help you to find the FSC certified exhibitors at the interzum 2015 as easily as possible.
The public database with all FSC certificate holders worldwide
is accessible at www.info.fsc.org.
Im Vergleich zur interzum 2013 sind dieses Jahr mit 190 fast
doppelt so viele FSC-zertifizierte Austeller aus über 30 Ländern vertreten. Damit wird klar, dass der Herkunftsnachweis
bei Holz und Papier eine immer wichtigere Rolle in der Möbelbranche und beim Innenausbau spielen. Weltweit sind
knapp 186 Millionen Hektar Wald in 80 Ländern zertifiziert
und knapp 50.000 Unternehmen in der Produktkette haben
ein FSC-Zertifikat. Über 500 Endkundenhändler nutzen die
FSC-Warenzeichen in Milliarden-Auflage und sorgen für mehr
Bekanntheit des FSC-Zeichens.
In comparison to the interzum 2013 this year with 190, almost
twice as many FSC certified exhibitors from over 30 countries are represented. Thereby it becomes apparent, that the
proof of origin for wood and paper resources play worldwide
an increasingly important role in the furniture branch as well
as in interior fittings. Worldwide almost 186 million hectares
of forests in more than 80 countries are certified and nearly
50.000 companies in the supply chain hold a COC certificate.
More than 500 retailers use the FSC trademarks in billions of
editions and increase the high profile of the FSC trademarks.

Überprüfung des Forstbetriebes
Unabhängige Zertifizierer überprüfen jährlich im Forstbetrieb,

Überwachung der Kennzeichnung
Die zugelassenen Zertifizierer des FSC überwachen die
ordnungsgemäße Verwendung des FSC-Logos mit Angabe
der Lizenznummer auf Produkten. Zusätzlich wird sichergestellt, dass die jeweilige FSC-Kennzeichnung, die aus dem
Rohstoffeinsatz hervorgeht, auf dem Produkt verwendet wird.
Überwachung der Werbung mit dem FSC-Zeichen
In Werbematerialien wie Katalogen dürfen Verarbeiter und
Händler mit einer eigenen Nummer für FSC-zertifizierte Produkte werben.
FSC 100%: Das Holz dieses Produktes stammt
ausschließlich aus FSC-zertifiziertem Wald. Das
Holz muss von nicht-zertifiziertem stets getrennt
gelagert, gehandelt und verarbeitet werden.
Eine Vermischung darf nicht stattfinden.
FSC Mix: Bei der Produktion wurde Holz aus
FSC-zertifizierten Wäldern, kontrollierten Quellen und Recyclingmaterial verwendet. FSCzertifiziertes Material oder Post-ConsumerRecycling wird entweder zu mindestens 70%
eingesetzt oder es wird eine mindestens äquivalente Menge im Prozess verwendet, um die
gekennzeichneten Waren herzustellen.
FSC Recycled: Für dieses Produkt wurde
ausschließlich Gebrauchtholz oder Altpapier
verwendet. Das Material muss seinen Einsatzzweck erfüllt haben – beispielsweise ein

In advertising material such as catalogues, manufacturers and
retailers are only allowed to advertise using their own number.

FSC Mix: To manufacture this product timber

Möglichkeiten und Vorteile
von nachhaltigem Tropenholz

Tropenholz zeichnet sich durch Langlebigkeit, Festigkeit und
andere technische Eigenschaften wie auch durch seine vielfältigen optischen Merkmale aus. Darüber hinaus ist es im
Vergleich zu Plastik oder Aluminium leichter reparaturfähig
und recycelbar. Tropenholz kann auch besonders feuerfest
sein, und chemische Behandlung ist bei einigen Arten unnötig, da sie eine natürliche Resistenz gegen Pilze besitzen.
Durch UV-Strahlung wird Tropenholz oft silberfarben, bekommt einen besonderen Schutz und eine eigene ästhetische
Ausstrahlung. Tropische Hölzer eignen sich insbesondere für
die Verwendung im Außenbereich sowie für Anwendungen
mit besonders hohen Anforderungen wie Abriebfestigkeit oder
Farbe, für Holzbauten mit qualitativ besonders hohen Ansprüchen, aber auch für andere ästhetische Anwendungen. Unter
Berücksichtigung sämtlicher Herstellungs-, Nutzungs- und
Wiederverwertungszyklen ist Tropenholz - bezogen auf Nachhaltigkeit und Kosten - oftmals anderen Materialien deutlich
überlegen.
Trotz dieser ausgezeichneten Produkteigenschaften hat der
Gebrauch von Tropenholz insbesondere bei Möbeln und im
Innenausbau während der letzten Jahre in Europa deutlich
abgenommen.

Die Europäische Koalition für nachhaltiges Tropenholz
Die Europäische Koalition für nachhaltiges Tropenholz (European STTC) hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die Nachfrage
nach Holz aus nachhaltig bewirtschafteten Tropenwäldern zu
steigern. Der Sprung zu mehr verantwortungsvoller Waldbewirtschaftung wird kommen, wenn Schlüsselakteure am Markt
verantwortungsvolle Holzprodukte nachfragen.
Eine starke gemeinsame Botschaft der Schlüsselakteure in
Europa ist deshalb notwendig. Der FSC (Forest Stewardship
Council®) ist gemeinsam mit einer wachsenden Anzahl aktiver
Akteure der Branche Teil dieser Koalition.
Marktakteure, sowohl öffentliche als auch private, können Teil
der Europäischen STTC werden. Zusammen mit den Partnern der Europäischen STTC wird ein Aktionsplan entwickelt,
um zur Zielerreichung der Koalition beizutragen. Darüber hinaus knüpft die European STTC Verbindungen zu anderen
Organisationen, die an ähnlichen Themen arbeiten. Diese
Organisationen unterstützen die europäische STTC und ihre
Ziele durch den Austausch von Wissen, Erfahrungen und
Sichtweisen.
Teilnehmer sind dazu eingeladen in einer der drei bestehenden Arbeitsgruppen zu Kommunikation, Marketing oder
technischen Fragen mitzuarbeiten. Durch die Teilnahme an
den Arbeitsgruppen werden weitere Services entwickelt, wie
beispielsweise die Förderung der Nutzung von weniger bekannten Holzarten.

Sourcing sustainable tropical timber:
opportunities and benefits
Tropical timber distinguishes itself by durability, firmness and
other technical qualities as well as a varied optical appearance. Moreover, compared to plastic or metal (e.g. steel, aluminum) timber is far easier to maintain and it is recyclable.
Furthermore, tropical timber can be highly fire-resistant and
chemical treatment with some species is not even necessary,
because of their natural fungus-resistance. By UV radiation
tropical timber gets a silver colour, special protection and its
own aesthetic look. Tropical timber suits especially for exterior use, as well as applications with particular requirements,
such as abrasion resistance or colour, for the building industry
and uses with high technical pretense, and furthermore for its
aesthetic features. Taking into account manufacturing-, usingand recycling-cycles the use of tropical timber is superior to
other materials when it comes to sustainability aspects and
overall costs.
In spite of these excellent product features, the use of tropical timber has considerably decreased especially for furniture
and interior fittings during the last years in Europe.
The European Sustainable Tropical Timber Coalition
The European Sustainable Tropical Timber Coalition (European STTC) aims to increase the demand for timber from
sustainable managed forests. This jump towards responsible
forest management will come when key players on the market
demand responsible timber products. A strong united message from key players in Europe is therefore necessary.
The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is part of this coalition, together with a growing list of active sector players.
Market players, both public and private, can become participant of the European STTC. Together with the partners of the
European STTC, they will develop action plans to contribute
to the ambition of the coalition. In addition, the European
STTC maintains linkages with other organizations working on
similar topics. By exchanging knowledge, experiences and
views, these organizations are supporters of the European
STTC and its ambition.
Participants are invited to join in one of the three working
groups on communication, marketing or technical issues.
Through engagement in these working groups services are
offered and for example topics such as promoting the use of
lesser known timber species, are addressed.

Chile: Ein nachhaltiges forstwirtschaftliches Angebot für die Welt
Durch die Entwicklung hin zu einem nachhaltigen Forstsektor,
hat es Chile zu internationaler Anerkennung gebracht und die
führende Position des Landes im Bereich der nachhaltigen
Forstwirtschaft gestärkt. Die Waldfläche für einheimische
Wälder sowie Plantagen hat dabei in den letzten Jahren stetig
zugenommen.
Chilenische Forstexporte
Im Jahr 2014 hat Chile 3.065 Millionen US$ an forstwirtschaftlichen Erzeugnissen (ohne Zellulose) exportiert. Diese
Exporte gingen weltweit an 91 Märkte, mit den Vereinigten
Staaten (743 Millionen US$) und Japan (383 Millionen US$)
als wichtigste Importländer. Zu den wichtigsten Nebenprodukten, die aus Chile exportiert werden, gehören unter anderem Baumaterialien: Holz und verarbeitetes Holz, Papier,
Pappe und Karton sowie bei der Holzverarbeitung eingesetzte
Materialien und Hygienepapier.

Als kleines Land in Südamerika, hat Chile es geschafft, sich
zu einer blühenden, international renommierten Forstindustrie
mit einer stark exportorientierten und hohen Teilnahme am
Weltmarkt, zu entwickeln.
Etwa 23% der gesamten chilenischen Landfläche ist von
Wald bedeckt. Die Hälfte der 14,2 Millionen Hektar mit natürlichem Wald wird als Wirtschaftswald eingestuft. Die wichtigsten Produktionsarten gehören zu der Gattung Nothofagus - die Baumart Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) ist eine der
bekanntesten davon.
Angepflanzte Wälder, vor allem Monterey-Kiefer- und Eukalyptusplantagen, bedecken 2,9 Millionen Hektar, was nahezu
4% der gesamten Landesfläche ausmacht. Mit einer jährlichen Holzernte von 40 Millionen Kubikmeter produzieren diese Plantagen Holz für mehr als 90% der in Chile hergestellten
Holzprodukte. Darüber hinaus stehen 2,3 Millionen Hektar
zusätzliche Landfläche zur Verfügung, die sich für Plantagenentwicklung eignen und attraktive Möglichkeiten für Anleger
bieten.
Chile hat große Anstrengungen unternommen, um eine

Chile: Sustainable forestry supply
to the world
The development towards a sustainable Chilean forestry sector and the continuous increase in forest cover over the past
years, for both native forest and plantations, has led to international recognition and strengthened the country’s position
as a leader in sustainable forestry management.
Chilean Forestry Exports
In 2014, Chile exported US$ 3,065 million in forestry products
to the world – excluding cellulose exports. These exports are
aimed to 91 markets worldwide with the United States (US$
743 million) and Japan (US$ 383 million) being the main destinations. The main byproducts exported from Chile to the
world are carpentry materials used in construction, wood and
its derivates, paper, cardboard and poster board, wood manufacturing and tissues among others.

Despite being a relatively small country Chile has managed
to develop a thriving, internationally renowned forest industry,
with a strong export orientation and high participation in world
markets.
Approximately 23% of the total Chilean land surface is covered by forested land. The natural forest covers 14.2 million
hectares, half of which is categorized as productive forest.
The mainly produced species are of the genus Nothofagus,
with Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) being the most known.
Planted forests, especially plantations of Radiata pine and Eucalyptus spp., occupy 2.9 million hectares, covering nearly 4%
of the country’s territory. The annual wood harvest reaches
40 million cubic meters. These plantations produce timber
for over 90% of the timber products manufactured in Chile.
Furthermore, there are 2.3 million hectares of additional land
available and suitable for plantation development, offering an
attractive opportunity for investors.
Chile has made great efforts to establish a cost-effective timber and forest industry. Currently, 300 thousand hectares of
native forest and over 70% of Chilean plantations are voluntarily certified under internationally recognized certification
schemes for sustainable management. Most of Chile’s forestry activity is governed by the leading certification system
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®). This certification system
has been promoted even among medium and small players in
the Chilean forest industry.

22. Vollversammlung des FSC Deutschland
25. - 26.6.2015 in Stuttgart
Die FSC-Vollversammlung ist das jährliche zentrale Forum für
Mitglieder und Interessierte in Deutschland.
Auf Einladung des Ministeriums für Ländlichen Raum und
Verbraucherschutz Baden-Württemberg und des Landes
betriebes ForstBW findet die diesjährige Vollversammlung in
Stuttgart statt.
Kernthema ist in diesem Jahr die aktuell laufende Revision
des Deutschen FSC-Waldstandards. Darüber hinaus möchten
wir uns dem Thema FSC im Bausektor widmen. Ein dritter
Schwerpunkt wird die Auseinandersetzung mit den Wirkungen
des FSC in den Tropen sein. Gemeinsam mit Mitgliedern und
Gästen möchten wir diese Aspekte diskutieren und Impulse für
die Weiterentwicklung des FSC setzen.
