p S EC p S EC R.B. Seal COLD APPLIED RUBBER / BITUMEN SEALANT AND BEDDING COMPOUND DESCRIPTION SpEC R.B. Seal is a cold applied non-slumping plastic rubber / bitumen compound with fibres, mineral fillers and non-drying oils, providing an effective seal for limited movement joints associated with waterproofing works, water retaining structures, etc. TYPICAL USES SpEC R.B. Seal may be used as sealant , filler and bedding mastic with most building and waterproofing materials. Such uses include, but are not limited to: · Sealing of joints in substructure works, irrigation canals, water retaining structures, roof gutters, corrugated fiber-cement sheets, etc. · Filling gaps, cracks and fissures bituminous water proofing systems are used. · Pointing mastic at pipe entries and pipe joints · Bedding mastic for roof tiles and slates, manhole covers , etc. ADVANTAGES · Water resistant - unaffected by permanent immersion in water · Compatible with asphalt, concrete, metal, bituminous systems and most other building materials · Single-component and cold-applied - no mixing, heating or special equipment required · Versatile - can be used in a variety of applications TECHNICAL DATA Colour Density Movement accommodation factor Black semi-stiff paste 1.5kg/litre 20% for lap joints, 10% for butt joints A BARDAWIL COMPANY Setting Time Service temp. Various between 24-48 hrs depending on climatic conditions Between +50°C and 75°C CHEMICAL RESISTANCE SpEC R.B. Seal is resistant to: Saline Solutions Dilute acids Alkalis APPLICATION Joint preparation Joint surfaces must be free from dust, dirt, grease, oil, rust, old coatings and other contaminants. SpEC R.B. Seal may be applied to slightly damp surfaces, but wet or water logged areas must be left to dry. Where algae and fungi have grown, they must be removed and the area treated with a fungicide to discourage further growth. Where a neat finish is required, joint edges must be masked before priming or sealing. SpEC R.B. Seal must be supported by a firm joint filler such as SpECcell Fibre in expansion joints, or other backing materials in difference applications. Priming SpEC R.B. Seal does not require a primer under normal conditions. However, for resealing jobs and on old and porous surfaces apply a cost of SpEC Primer No. 2 - to joint sides and allow to dry before sealing with SpEC R.B. Seal. Application Apply SpEC R. B. Seal to the joint using a trowel, putty knife or spatula, ensuring joint base and corners are well filled. Tool the surfaces for a neat finish ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS and remove surplus material promptly. For horizontal joints in roots and other exposed areas leave the sealant 2-3mm below the surface. Gap Filling: Fill gaps and cracks as described above. Pointing: Fill pipe entries, pipe joints, corrugated sheet overlaps, etc as above, and where necessary form a triangular bead outside the joint. Bedding: Spread a layer of SpEC R.B. Seal over the base as required and place the units over the bedding layer, pressing firmly into place. SpEC Primer No. 2 Solvent based bituminous primer for old and porous surfaces. Apply a thin coat by brush to joint sides and allow to dry before sealing. EQUIPMENT CLEANING Tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately using SpECseal Cleaning Fluid. APPLICATION TEMPERATURE RANGE +5°C to 50°C HEALTH & SAFETY SpEC R.B. Seal contains bitumen and solvents, and while no health hazards are associated with its normal use, protection should be provided to prevent contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of the solvent fumes. Always allow adequate ventilation when using the product. Skin contamination shall be removed immediately with a proprietary hand cleaner. Contact with eyes shall be washed immediately with copious amounts of clean water, followed by medical attention. Dispose of all waste in accordance with the local environmental regulations.
