SUNY FREDONIA FEDERAL CREDIT UNION N E W S L E T T Volume 29 • Issue 1 January, 2015 E R When you’re a member, you’re an owner. That’s the credit union difference. Scholarship Opportunity If your family has a student who will be graduating from high school this year, then belonging to the SUNY Fredonia FCU has never been more useful. All high school seniors who are planning to attend college and who are members of the Credit Union are eligible to compete for scholarships in the amounts of $500 to $1,000. Signing up for the scholarship competition is simple. Pick up an application form at one of the Credit Union offices or download the application from the link found on our website. The student then must follow the instructions for writing an essay, filling out each question and obtaining required official high school transcript and SAT, PSAT or ACT transcript from school personnel. The completed application, essay, and transcripts must be returned to the SUNY Fredonia FCU by January 31, 2015. Your application will be judged against others submitted to the New York State Credit Union League from all over New York State. There is no fee for submitting an application, but those entering must be members of our Credit Union, and all applications must be received no later than January 31, 2015. Winners will be announced in May. Past scholarship winners have attended schools all over the country; you are not limited to opportunities for higher education within the state. The college may be a 2 or 4 year school. Scholarships will be judged on GPA, SAT scores, community service, activities, the essay and awards won. Not only is the NYS Credit Union League giving out scholarships, but the SUNY Fredonia FCU is pleased to announce that they will also give out three of their own $500 scholarships. The NYSCUL will judge all applications from our CU and rate them from 1-10 for us. The top 2 will each receive one $500 scholarship from our CU to any college. These scholarships are in honor of Frances C. Granata, our first CU President in 1974 and Paul T. Schonhart, who served as President for 12 years. The third $500 scholarship will be for the top student that is attending SUNY Fredonia College. This scholarship is in memory of Patricia Rushboldt who worked for the CU for more than 28 years. Each student can only win one $500 scholarship from the Credit Union. For more information about the program, feel free to contact our Fredonia office by calling 673-3585. Best of luck to all our seniors!!! CAR FOR SALE The Credit Union has a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse with 44,640 miles for sale. When the IRS applies its new interpretation (January 1, 2015), an IRA owner may complete only one IRA rollover in any 12-month period, regardless of how many IRAs he or she owns. IRA owners need to be prepared and plan should they consider an IRA to IRA rollover in 2015.
