2015 GRIEFSHARE SEMINAR
January 6 through March 31, 2015
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Asbury UMC will be offering another session of GriefShare
beginning in January and ending in March. Each session will
require a minimum of 5 participants in order to conduct a
meaningful discussion group.
GriefShare is a special seminar and support group for people
grieving the loss of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. This
group is sponsored by people who understand what you are
experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement
during this difficult time.
Expressions of Joy, led by Vera Klienhenz,
delighted our December UMW unit meeting
with uplifting songs of the season.
Ruth Circle and the Executive committee
provided a delicious brisket luncheon, the
meeting concluded with installation of 2015
officers by Betty Jo Nye, membership chair of
the UMW District office.
Mark your calendars for the next unit
meeting, Thursday, 8 January 2015 at 9. If
you are not a member, please join us for
refreshments and an inspirational program
on Prayer and Self-Denial.
Each GriefShare session
includes a video seminar and
group discussion. A GriefShare
workbook ($15.00) assists you
with note-taking, journaling, and grief study. The videos feature
top experts on grief recovery, dramatic reenactments about living Marilou Cochran
with grief and real-life stories of people who have experienced
Communications Coordinator
losses like yours.
During the small group discussion time, you’ll have the
opportunity to interact with others who have experienced a
recent loss, learn about their experiences and share your own.
Sanctuary Heat
GriefShare is a nondenominational group and features biblical
teaching on grief and recovery topics.
Please join us for this next GriefShare session by calling the
church office (299-0643) by or emailing ([email protected])
for enrollment information.
The Sanctuary has radiant heat in the
floors. It does take a while to warm up,
especially for the 8:30 service, but rest
assured it is on. Just take off your shoes
and your toes will enjoy the heat!

Hello Asbury friends,
It has been so nice to hear from a couple of you via my blog. Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers!
The Christmas/New Year’s season doesn’t seem like one at all here – at least not yet. There is certainly very little
commercialization of Christmas here. I have seen very few Christmas decorations and heard no carols (yet), but I
did help a friend from the U.S. Embassy set up and decorate her Christmas tree, which helped to get me in the
Christmas spirit!
Recently, I had the privilege of conducting teacher workshops in the southwest part of Burkina Faso for the U.S.
Embassy. It was a ten day trip to Gaoua, Banfora, and Bob Dialoussa, Burkina Faso. I saw lots of the country, met
many Burkinabe English teachers, and was even able to do a little sight-seeing. In Bobo Dialoussa, I took a tour of
The Grande Mosque, which is one of the oldest structures in this country. If you visit my blog, I will be sharing
some pictures there. The address is http://
bonniesbigadventure.wordpress.com. Once again, I am having internet
access problems, but I will attempt to update my blog soon!
The political situation seems to have calmed down here. There is a new
civilian-led transitional government in place and a timeline for conducting
democratic elections in November, 2015. For the most part, the citizens of
this county are cautiously optimistic about their government, but they
remain very vigilant.
By the time you read this, I hope you all will have had a blessed Christmas
and the start of a great New Year!
God Bless,
Bonnie Bailey
Emergency Preparedness
by Hap Escue
What would you do if:
You were stuck for 12 hours in the snow on I-40?
The police blocked off your neighborhood and you
needed to find your family?
A fire made your house unusable?
What if….
There are so many possibilities for
events that disrupt our daily
routines: sometimes for just a little
while; sometimes for
days; sometimes for months.
What do you do when an emergency
occurs? Do you and your family have
a plan for communication and getting
together? Do you have emergency
equipment and supplies to use if
needed?
can (and must) do to be prepared for emergencies.
We have an Family Emergency Preparedness Team and
we'd like to help you plan what emergencies to be
prepared for, what you need to do
to communicate with family and to get help,
to have the equipment and supplies do you need,
to deal with pets,
to cope with age issues and with special needs.
Please plan to come on January 11
after the second service for a
presentation and discussions about
emergency preparedness, and
discussions about the various kinds of
emergencies and situations we all
need to be prepared for. A light
lunch will be served and a nursery will
be provided.
The presentations will be repeated on
Jan 20 at 7pm At Asbury UMC.
Do you have any emergency equipment or supplies in
your car? At work? At church?
If you have any questions, call Hap Escue, 453-2800 or
Dru Ann at the church office, 299-0643,
Whether you are single, married, have dependent
children, or have special needs, there is something you

Welcome Team looking for a few volunteers
The Welcome Team is looking for a few volunteers to deliver a “thank you for visiting” gift to first time
visitors (at their home) who give us their address information. The gift is a bag of microwave popcorn
with a thank you note attached (the Welcome Team supplies these). After the second service the
delivery person (or couple) would check the pew sign in sheets in the office to get the first time visitor
information for that Sunday and deliver the popcorn later that afternoon.
Volunteers would only have to do this once a month.
