Your Clients and Practice: LEGACY – VALUE - PURPOSE
Should we redefine legacy, financial planning, and legal planning? - or - just remember the spirit and passion that should be
the driver.
Please join us for our eleventh annual Gathering for two days of shared insights, education, and collegiality. The Gathering is an
annual event for all advisors in Estate, Business, and Wealth Strategies Planning. As we gather and work together we can, through
collegiality and collaborarion, provide the leadership our clients are seeking to offer clarity and direction for their planning needs.
The format of the two-day Gathering is designed to engage all participants in a conversation where audience interaction is as critical

!!!AMERICA’S TOP PLANNER 2ND PLACE
PRESENTATION!!!
Fund Your Client’s Estate Planning Strategy with a
“Found Asset”; presented by Wendy Beerbower, VP of
Sales and Greg Banner, CLU®, CFP®, CRTP
The average family has more than 62% of their net worth tied up in
their primary residence, yet no easy way to access those assets without
selling the property or taking on additional debt. Wendy and Greg
will share a simple but powerful boost to the traditional ILIT solution
in which qualified homeowners receive a tax-deferred lump sum
cash payment of up to 17 % of the current value of their qualifying
residential real estate in exchange for a percentage of the future
appreciation of the home. Using this estate planning strategy, advisors
can help satisfy a fundamental goal of most high-net-worth clients:
protect the estate from tax without incurring out-of-pocket costs or
monthly payments.
Using “philanthropy” as a gateway to attract, engage, and work with
high net worth families has become all the rage. Amy and Elise from
Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation will pull back the curtain and
share what forms of counseling and collaboration you might build
into your process to actually help families benefit their communities
and find meaning for their connection to wealth and values. Should
charities have a seat at the planning table?
2:00pm – 2:50pm
Irrevocable trusts come in numerous flavors/sizes and many of our
clients have them in place – or might consider them through our
advice. However, with the changes from January 2013, accounting
professionals are very concerned about various taxation issues. Ann
and ? from Dunham Trust Company will share the significant hesitancy,
differing tax rates, drafting solutions, and other options for the planner
and families.
11:10am – 12:00pm Estate and Asset Protection Strategies Coupled with
Life Insurance Will Make Your Client’s Hearts and
“Pocket Books” Sing; presented by Simon Singer, CFP®,
RFC® and Shelley Lightfoot, Executive Director
Once again, join one of our most popular speakers, Stuffy, as he
explains why some of the country’s largest corporations and most
successful families use life insurance in conjunction with other
sophisticated strategies to enhance their planning. Advanced concepts
coupled with collaboration ain’t easy – Shelley and Stuffy will share
methods and language to “show the value.”
12:00pm – 1:10pm Sponsored Lunch
Legal Planning & Alzheimer’s Disease – Planning for
the Future When the Diagnosis is Dementia; presented
by Richard Scott Stewart, Esq. & Jessica Empeno, MSW
Alzheimer’s Association
The massive baby boomer generation faces financial and medical
threats in numbers that we as planners never had to deal with before.
In addition, the misinformation in the market place about the ability
to help these families is extensive. Jessica from the Alzheimer’s
Association and Scott from California Estate and Elder Law will debunk
and review the intersection of prior planning options, crisis planning
options, and medical diagnosis.
The Nuts & Bolts of Decanting; presented by Scott
Gunderson, Esq. and Greg Crawford, CFP®
Much has been written about the benefits of moving assets from one
trust to another using a process known as decanting. Greg and Scott
will illustrate the mechanics of actually decanting a case-study trust.
We’ll look at the permissible terms of the new trust, determine who the
grantor of the second trust is, analyze any income or gift tax issues, and
deal with the process to finally transfer the assets.
2:50pm – 3:10pm
Break
3:10pm – 4:00pm
Asset Protection Trusts – The In’s and Out’s and Do’s
and Don’t’s ; presented by Jeffrey R. Matsen, Esq. and
Marc Selden, Esq.
Does the Asset Protection Trust really work? Jeff and Marc will
examine and review the pros and cons of Domestic and Offshore
Asset Protection Trusts and provide valuable suggestions and
recommendations for their set up and structure. They will review
recent pertinent court cases and then put everything into prospective
utilizing dynamic hypothetical case studies.
9:50pm – 10:20am Break
10:20am – 11:10am Income Tax Concerns Regarding Irrevocable Asset
Protection Trusts – By the Numbers and Solutions;
presented by Ann Rosevear, JD, President, Chief Trust
Officer and Scott Wait, CPA, AEP
Aligning Values and Wealth Through Philanthropy;
presented by Amy Weeks, MSW, CFRE and Elise Webster
4:00pm – 4:50pm
The 100 Year Plan- How to Build a Multi-Generational
Loyalty as an Advisor; presented by Terry Kaltenbach,
CLU®, ChFC and Susan Edwards, CLU®, ChFC, CASL
Don’t become a statistic. 70% of widows change advisors after the death
of the spouse - and once the current generation is gone, the business often
moves to a younger advisor. Join Society of Financial Service Professionals
board members Terry & Sue as they share how to help your clients build
the “perfect calendar.” Learn how to build meaningful relationships with the
entire family to sustain your relationships even after the death of the client.
4:50pm – 5:00pm

Okay,
I’m a successful professional.
Now what?
Many professionals reach a point in their career where they have achieved a certain level of success, yet find themselves

experiences, and together, create a purposeful, profitable, and fulfilling place for our clients and ourselves.
The inter-disciplinary Laureate Programs provide you a place to go to:
• stay up to date with technical and industry changes, and more importantly
• share and learn what’s working and not working in our ever-changing market in the areas of:
Technical, Practice Management, and Case Studies.
