TWO BIDS OF £2550 LEAD MUCH BETTER THAN EXPECTED TRADE AT BEESTON MID MONTH
AND FOCUS MILK SALE
Clive Norbury 07931 485500
Stuart Hassall 07960 167513
Simon Lamb 07815 188125
The Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Sale of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy cattle attracted a catalogued entry of 440 Head for the December Edition of this event. A total of 409 Head changed hands.
MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS A larger crowd were present around the milk ring and trade, particularly for
heifers, was far better than expected. It has to be said quality was not as good as we are used to, and in particular there were not many great cows forward. Anything with a decent milky udder, width and of condition
sold to plenty of bidding. Averages were up on the month for heifers and the top twenty averaged a very
creditable £2138. So that was good and very encouraging considering what is going on in the industry.
Top price was £2550 both for heifers in the Focus Milk section. The first to make this price was the very well
bred heifer, Linlake Braxton Brita from David Bourne of Barbridge, Nantwich. She had 10 gens of VG/EX dams
and is bred from the noted ‘B’ family at Regancrest. Also at this price was another superbly bred heifer with 9
gens of VG/Ex dams. Aliamm Testarossa Orlando consigned by Enchanted Holsteins of Preston.
In the commercial section prices topped at £2250 twice; the first at this figure was Skyhigh Recount Vaakje
2nd consigned by Simon Powell of Burlton, Shrewsbury sold giving 34 kg. Also at this price was Wycherley
Shottle Shanna 2nd from Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury who sold this Shottle daughter giving 33kg daily. The same vendors also sold a homebred daughter of Curtismill Halo giving 34 kg for £2200.
Two heifers made £2150 each; one from D & E Monk of Ormskirk for a daughter of Integrity and the other a
Cogent Loader from Mark and Anne Bowden of Malpas. A total of 22 Heifers sold for 2k or more.
Cow trade good for anything good; there just were not enough good cows about. The top bid was £1800
which was achieved twice for two outstanding Fleckvieh first cross second calvers from J & S Richardson. Top
Holstein was £1780 for a second calver from SE Pym & Sons of Barrow.
There was plenty of demand for the coloured breeds and in particular the Shorthorns and Jerseys. An Ayrshire cross Shorthorn heifer from A Howe of Buxton made £1700. Jerseys were in great demand, helped by
the presence of a buyer from Southern Ireland and topped at £1300 for a second calver from John Dickinson
of Doncaster.
IN-CALF HEIFERS Not many in-calvers about and nothing very close. Top price was £1320 for a February calver from the Corlett’s of Ormskirk whilst mid-pregnancy heifers from JM & JK Cliffe & Son of Nantwich sold to
£1200 whilst a recently served heifer in the dispersal from the Langley Partnership made £1220.
MAIDEN HEIFERS An entry of over 200 young stock sold in front of a huge ring of buyers which, for the
time of year, is quite surprising. The entry was largely made up of two young stock dispersals from farms in
South Cheshire and North Shropshire and it was that of The Langley Partnership from Whitchurch, that provided the top price of £1100 for a bulling heifer sired by Nethanvale Mel with another by Topshot realising
£1050.00. Pedigree Bulling heifers from Haydn Griffiths of Holywell sold to £950 whilst a January ’14 Shottle
heifer topped a consignment of similar aged heifers from ES Cole & Sons of Norfolk at £860.
HEIFER CALVES A small entry of heifer calves, all of which were babies sold up to £280 for Holsteins, whilst
first cross Montbeliards were up to £240 and first cross Norwegian reds were up to £180.
AVERAGES: 37 Cows £1206.66; 130 Milking Heifers £1612.07 (including 38 Focus Milk at £1714.11); 34
Served Heifers £1112.13; 192 Maiden Heifers £525.57; 16 Heifer Calves £171.88

Calf in Aid - Beeston Farmers
raise over £1500 for The Local Air Ambulance
Today at Wright Marshall’s Beeston Market, over 100 Farmers from Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales
gathered for the weekly calf auction. However this week there was a slight twist in proceedings, today was
officially the ‘Calf-in-Aid’ day, where farmers could donate a calf for auction on behalf of the Air Ambulance.
In all £1649 was raised for this Fantastic cause.
The idea came from Den Leonard of Lambert Leonard and May Farm Vets, who had the idea when selling a
calf of his own and from the positive feedback decided to launch Calf-In-Aid to the rural community.
Den said “I’ve approached a number of farmers, markets and auction
houses, and Wright Marshall’s Jonny Dymond is the only auctioneer
who has really embraced the idea and realises how it could benefit
not only the farmers but the rural community as well.”
Out of 400 calves, 9 were donated to ‘Calf-in Aid’. Wright Marshall
Calf Auctioneer Jonny Dymond was overwhelmed by the generosity of
these vendors who donated a selection of calves which sold from £36 to the top price for the charity of £265
for a British Blue heifer.
Jonny Dymond, Calf Auctioneer at Wright Marshall said: “I’d hope to raise £500 it the start of the day and to
say we raise £1649 I am blown away. My thanks all the farmers that donated I won’t name names but they
know who they are and they are heroes. We all work out in the countryside a long way from assistance if
needed and this level of generosity shows how important the air ambulance is to many farming families.
Wright Marshall Agricultural and Livestock Auctioneers hold a weekly calf auction every Friday and is proud
to support the Air Ambulance. All money raised will go to the Vendors Local Air Ambulance, If you would like
to be involved please get in touch with Jonny Dymond, at Wright Marshall.
