Happy New Year, Everyone! Welcome to a brand new year with lots of special events and new
games at Hazel’s. It is our plan to offer a variety of exciting games for all skill levels including
some weekend “pool” games which will pay for first place in each strata! These will be special
games open to any players who wish to participate. These “pool” games on Saturday aft. will
begin in January and continue all year. The “pool” games will be $10/person and the club contributes $25 for every 3 tables. A 3 table game begins with a pool of $25, 6 tables will see $50
from the club, 9 tables will start with a $75 contribution from the club and so on………. ($3 extra
for the pool unless you attended last week’s game). Any suggestions for new games or special
events for the year 2015 should be directed to Hazel. She is always happy to hear ideas which
could increase attendance at our games and provide enjoyment to our players.

Avoiding Common Errors in Bridge (continued)
Here are some tips to consider when playing, defending or bidding a bridge hand. Bridge is a game of errors! The
fewer errors you make, the better your results will be !


Plan to cover the “final” honour when covering an honour from dummy.


Whenever you are declarer, try to build up a picture of the unseen hands.

When a good opponent seemingly gives you a present, stay alert! Watch for a trap. Beware of
bridge players bearing gifts.

When considering bidding at the three level over the opponents’ three level contract, always bid
when your side has 9 trumps but never when it has only 8.
Don’t play an idle card thoughtlessly. Consider what the effect of playing it may be. If played at
the wrong time, an idle card could betray your whole hand.
With 8 winners and 5 losers in 3NT, play off your long suit early. The opponents might be under
pressure in the other suits in which you hope to take tricks.
Bridge tips are designed to provide “guidelines” so assess each situation carefully before acting.

lessons will address all of the different treatments in the boxes of the
Convention card and teach students
how to fill out the different sections
of the card as they learn. Lessons
begin at 9:30 am and cost $10.00 each.
