From the Assistant Principal L&T
Thanksgiving Mass
On Thursday 11th December we celebrated our Thanksgiving Mass. This was a wonderful opportunity to
give thanks to God for the good things and the challenges we have faced as a school community this
year- we have danced with joy and we have cried with sorrow. We thank Father Peter for his celebration
of this Mass and for all our Masses during the year. His support of our school and the building of parishschool relationships is exceptional and we thank him very much.
Grade 6 Leaver’s Dinner
After recognising our Grade 6 Leavers at our Thanksgiving Mass, we came together again with parents,
students and staff to celebrate the end of their primary years and time at John Paul II Catholic School.
The children were dressed beautifully and it was a great opportunity to come together to celebrate. The
highlights of the evening were the class awards, presented by Mr Lennard and Mrs Collinson and a great
i-movie/keynote presentation prepared by Mackenzie and Brock.
Launching into Learning Excellence in Education Award
It is with great pride that we let our school community know that our Kindergarten teacher, Ms Rebecca
Woolley has been awarded an, ‘Excellence in Education’ award for her work with ‘Launching into
Learning’ (which is our 0-4 program). It is a great honour to receive this community award for
outstanding service. We congratulate Bec and hope that members of our school community can join her
at ‘Carols Under the Stars’ at Lauderdale Primary School on Saturday 20th December from 6.00pm where
she will be presented with this award.
Au Revoir Mr Ireland
It is with much sadness that we farewell Mr Ireland for 2015 as he heads to outback N.S.W.
(Condobolin) to be principal of St. Joseph’s Primary School. We thank Jim for his hard work over many
years and wish him well on his new adventure. In our final assembly on Monday we presented Jim with
a card signed by each child in the school and a very smart akubra hat, completed with crocodile teeth
placed around the brim! This hat did suit him very well and perhaps we will now call him, ‘Crocodile
Ireland’. We look forward to seeing him again (and his crocodile toothed hat!) in 2016. All the best Jim!
Staff Farewells
David Noble has been teaching P.E. this year. He has been a great member of the JPII team, is very
dedicated, organised and plans great lessons. The children have really enjoyed Mr Noble teaching them
and he will be sadly missed in 2015. We wish him all the best at St. Aloysius.
Melissa Smith has been working as a Teacher Assistant and in the School Office since August 2013. She
has proved herself to be a most capable and versatile member of staff, able to complete anything asked
of her quickly, efficiently and thoroughly. Her great care of the students has made her well loved by staff
and students alike. Her helpful, friendly nature will be sadly missed in 2015. We wish her all the best at
Hutchins.
17th December 2014
Thank you to all our dedicated and hard working staff for everything they have done this year. They
have worked tirelessly for the good of the children and their efforts have been outstanding. We are
lucky to have such a dedicated team at John Paul II Catholic School.
End of year arrangements
Classes finish at 12.00pm on Thursday 18th December and children may be collected at this time. For
children who are unable to be collected, full supervision will be offered until 2.50pm when the school
bus will run as usual. A BBQ lunch (sausage in bread) will be provided for all students at 12.00pm.
