An Evening of Magic and Thrills On Motzei Shabbat, January 31st, at 8:00pm, the YINW will be hosting its annual winter event! Our opening act is a man who needs no introduction, magician Francis Menotti. But we are just getting warmed up. Our headliner is none other than David Darwin aka The One Man Sideshow. Yu may remember him from America’s Got Talent! That’s right! We pulled out all the stops! All this for just $54 per person which includes a lavish dairy buffet, a splitting of the pot and raffle prizes. All proceeds go to benefit the YINW. Please RSVP to Mordechai Gampel at [email protected] and let him know you are in! If you can contribute a raffle prize to the evening, let Mordechai know. Directory in the Works The 2014-2015 digital version will be released in the coming weeks. Please note that the directory is a Member Directory, and although we would love to include all our very close friends who support the shul in so many endearing and brilliant ways, the directory is a listing of our members/associate members. If you would like a clarification as to your status for 2014-2015 (and no, it is not purely based on being current with dues or in—worst shul phrase ever—good standing), please email [email protected]. Continue the Unity On Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm, February 8th, the mothers of ‘our three boys,’ Rachel Fraenkel, Bat Galim Shaer and Iris Yifrach will be at The Ramaz Upper School (current site of Kehilat Jeshurun under Rabbi Haskel Lookstein) at a large community-wide solidarity event to Continue the Unity and love of Israel that the mothers and their three sons, Naftali, z’l, Gilad, z’l and Eyal, z’l inspired across the globe. Hosted by KJ, the event is sponsored by major synagogues across the city, with a prestigious Host Committee. Rachel Fraenkel, Bat Galim Shaer and Iris Yifrach, touched the world with their grace, strength and faith. During the three weeks that their sons, z’l, were missing, the Jewish world was united in hope. The event promises to be the opportunity to re-ignite that feeling of unity and hope in our community in the presence of these incredible women. 26 Tevet 5775 Upcoming Schedule Friday 1/16 – 25 Tevet Shacharit I Shacharit II Candlelighting Mincha 6:30 am 7:45 am 4:35 pm 4:45 pm Shabbat 1/17 – 26 Tevet Shabbat Mevarchim Shacharit Latest Shema Chabura @ Bach Mincha Ma’ariv Shabbat Ends 9:00 am 9:40 am 3:00 pm 4:20 pm 5:30 pm 5:39 pm Sunday 1/18 – 27 Tevet Shacharit Mincha/Ma’ariv 8:00 am 4:40 pm Monday 1/19 – 28 Tevet Shacharit I Shacharit II Ramban on Parshat HaShuva Maariv@KBH Maariv@BKNW 6:20 am 7:45 am 8:30 pm 9:00 pm 10:15 pm Tuesday 1/20 – 29 Tevet Shacharit I Shacharit II Maariv@KBH Maariv@BKNW 6:30 am 7:45 am 9:00 pm 10:15 pm Wednesday 1/21 – 1 Shvat Rosh Chodesh Shvat Shacharit I Shacharit II Maariv@KBH Maariv@BKNW 6:15 am 7:45 am 9:00 pm 10:15 pm Thursday 1/22 – 2 Shvat Shacharit I Shacharit II Maariv@KBH Maariv@BKNW 6:20 am 7:45 am 9:00 pm 10:15 pm Friday 1/23 – 3 Shvat Shacharit I Shacharit II Candlelighting Mincha 6:30 am 7:45 am 4:43 pm 4:55 pm From YINW Security If you see something, say something! Israel Update – Top Ten Israel Hikes – Nahal Amud New year, new countdown. Here’s number 9. Nahal Amud “pillar canyon” is the pre-eminent Galilee hike. It runs from Mount Meron in the west toward the Sea of Galilee in the east. You can walk it in either direction; starting at Meron means more downhill and is generally preferred. The nahal, which parallels the Israel Trail, is gorgeous and shaded, but the highlight is the water—this nahal is not a dry creek. In the summer, the pools are crowded with campers from various youth movements. If you can make it past them, you’ll be treated to a more relaxing walk. There are a number of ancient flour mills along the path. The best place to start is at the parking lot off Highway 89, which connects the mystical town of Safed with Acre on the coast. This is a national park, so you’ll have to pay an entry fee. You start by winding down a steep path before arriving in the nahal. After the pools, you can continue west, or bail early near Safed. There’s a trail that climbs out of the nahal toward the cemetery in Safed. Keep heading up the hill, grab a falafel on the main street to recharge your batteries, then catch a taxi back to your starting point. The other, much shorter alternative is to double back to the parking lot. There’s an upper trail in thenahal that avoids the pools and crowds.
