Islamia establishes new Science Laboratories
In the past three years, Islamia has specifically focused on enhancing its facilities.
In this process we have established the Academia Centre (with its Zohra Noor
Auditorium, Alahmabra Restaurant, ITV studios); multi-functional Sports Court,
Security Fencing, Islamia Sports Ground, Astro-Turf facility, Pre-school structure, ICF
Building, Suspended Walkway from Academia Centre to the Labs and the improving
of Bathroom facilities. This enhancement is on-going.
Members of the Islamia Trust Board and Staff at the opening of the Islamia Laboratories.
Thanks to the generosity of Jive’s Mr Sharif Parker and family that we were recently
able to complete the full-fledged, state-of-the-art laboratories for Physics and Life
Sciences. This long-desired facility should enhance the quality of the presentation
of the subjects being taught and provide the necessary access to greater practical
studies for the benefit of Islamia learners.
In the words of Islamia Trust Board member, Mr Ali Dhansay, “Islamia College has
come a long way in its 30 years of existence and may the Almighty continue to guide
us to greater heights.”
Farewell Class of 2014
In bidding farewell to our Matriculants, the Islamia Board of Trustees, the Governing
Council, Staff and Students pray for the success of all matriculants. May the foundation
provided by Islamia College be a stepping stone to greater accomplishments.

Cherish the Fond Memories
My
journey
at
Islamia
College
started 12 years
ago when I entered
the school in grade
1.
Classmates
quickly
became
friends and friends
quickly
became
Aaliyah Osman
(Head Girl)
family. It is with
a heavy heart that I bid farewell to my
beloved school. My memories of Islamia
College will remain in my heart forever.
If I were to use one
word to describe
the
experiences
and
lessons
I
learned at Islamia
College, I would
say “empowering”.
These
lessons
Waseem Royker
and values that
(Head Boy)
one achieves at Islamia College not
only enables us to leave school with an
excellent education, but it also allows
us the opportunity to become rounded
Muslims who are ready to take on
the realities of the world out there. I
really appreciate all that the principals,
teachers and staff have done for all of us,
as it really made my stay at the school a
pleasant and fruitful one, Alhamdulillah.

Islamia
College
is a school filled
with
spectacular
personalities
and
amazing
Daiyaan Samaai
experiences.
(Deputy Head Boy)
This school has
personally cultivated me into becoming
a better person, both academically
and Islamically- something which I am
extremely grateful for. We are all going
to take different paths now, but Islamia
will remain the solid foundation which
allows us to overcome any obstacle in the
future. I am proud to say that I attended
Islamia College.
I have only been
at Islamia College
for 3 years but
in this short time
span I have grown
Abdulbasit Gabriels
to love the School,
the administration, the teachers and my
fellow students immensely. I have formed
numerous meaningful relationships at this
school and have many great memories
and learnt countless lessons that I will
always cherish. Islamia has instilled in
me the value of doing everything with
excellence or at least trying my best to
do so. I am immensely and eternally
grateful to Allah first and then to the
entire Islamia family for the blessing of
excellent education and for granting me
the opportunity to meet and form fruitful
relationships with the Islamia family.
I have been an
Islamia student for
13 years. I have
witnessed
this
School grow from
Sabeehah Kootbodien
strength to strength
and it has made me an exceptionally proud
learner. I’ve always felt like a daughter at
the school, as the teachers and students
were more like family. I will carry with
me many academic lessons however,
what I value most is the guidance I have
received. I will truly miss Islamia, as I will
be leaving a family behind.
My
experience
at
Islamia
has
been a whirlwind.
From being at two
different
schools
Ilham Mazema
prior to Islamia in
grade 10, it was definitely a different
environment that I once again had to
get use to. However, immersing myself
into the Islamia community was not too
difficult because the girls and teachers
were welcoming and helpful.
My experience at
Islamia has been
amazing, although
not every day was
great. There were
Rizia Mohedien
many
challenges
(Deputy Head Girl)
but all of it has
moulded me into who I am today. Islamia
has allowed me to grow from the shy
little person that I was in grade 1 to a
dynamic girl. This School is more of a
family because of its supportive teachers
and amazing learners.
I have thoroughly
enjoyed my 12
years at Islamia
and am very sad to
leave. My teachers
Sa’diyah Chohan
have become my
second parents and my friends, my
siblings. I have always felt encouraged by
Islamia to strive to be the best that I can
be, and for that I am extremely thankful.
I am very proud of the school and its
achievements. I would like to thank
Islamia, for giving me 12 memorable
years.
My years at Islamia
were nothing short
of
extraordinary.
It
housed
the
most
welcoming
Qoedsiya Osman
atmosphere
and
I recall being pleasantly surprised by
the familial nature of the teachers and
students alike. I am grateful to have
been among these people of wit, talent,
affection and good humour and to have
been a part of their constant challenge
to grow and triumph. Islamia will be with
me – like a handprint on my (now more
enlightened) heart.
Islamia College has
taught me many
valuable life lessons
and helped me
become the person
Tawfeeq Mathee
I am today. It is a
place of ample opportunity, with teachers
and principals desiring only what is best
for the learners. Islamia College is my
second family, and my experience here
has been unforgettable.
Preparing for Leadership
The 2014/2015 new prefects attended a prefect orientation as well as a leadership
and team building workshop. The prefect orientation outlined the prefect’s roles and
responsibilities while the fun team building explored different ways prefects can work
together as well as highlighting issues around collaboration, co-operation and shura/
mutual consultation.
All grade 9 and Grade 11 Islamia boys attended a leadership camp at the Ihlati Bush
Camp accompanied by the LO teacher, Ms Sultan. Ms. Sultan received lofty praises
from the camp organisers for the sound behaviour of the boys. Each learner was
awarded a certificate of attendance and special mention for the activities in which
they involved themselves.
The Gift of three more Huffaaz
Having produced over 28 huffaaz (those who have memorized the entire Qur’an)
already, by the Grace of the Almighty, the Islamia Hifth Academy was once more blessed
to witness the completion ceremonies of three more of our learners, Mubash’shir
Cader, Zuhayr Bux and Mujaahid Ismail. We express our heartfelt congratulations to
them and their respective parents on there wonderful achievements. These learners
will join their fellow classmates in their preparation for the upcoming Final External
Testing, Inshaa-Allah, with the express aim to graduate in 2015 and re-enter the
mainstream academics.

Attitude of Gratitude
Islamia Trust Board chairperson Mr Nazier Osman acknowledged all Islamia principals and paid tribute to their leadership at the
Farewell Matric Dinner at Islamia Hall. The Wife of the late Haji Abdur Razack Osman Murtaza (former chairperson of Islamia
Board) handed a token of appreciation to each principal on behalf of the Board and the Islamia family; a gesture applauded by
all.
Now This you call Dedication
Fun Time at the Pre-Primary
Luqmaan Razack, dedicated student,
who despite being on dialysis after three
kidney transplants, came to school and
wrote final exams. Luqmaan Razack
received our Matriculant of the Year
Award.
Crazy Hat Day: School is learning and fun, and sometimes, it is even funny.
Maths Whiz
Eco Concious
During the September recess a group of
Islamia boys, under the auspices of the
Eco Club, embarked on beach cleaning
operation. Whilst the rest of the school
was at rest they, out of conviction and
concern for the environment, offered
their time to enhance and renew the
natural beauty of the Mother City.
In the final round of the South African
AMESA MATHS CHALLENGE, Islamia’s
Mohamed Yaseen Soomra (Gr 6) and
Mikaeel Taliep (Gr 4) attained Gold
Certificates in this national challenge

Islamia Students Caring for the less fortunate
Islamia
students
rallied
together to make pots of soup
for those less fortunate. Staff
and students then went to
underprivileged schools and
were able to give students a
delicious warm cup of soup and
slice of bread.
This is in keeping with the
Islamia Cares Foundation’s
goodwill venture of reaching
out to the impoverished and
building bridges of compassion
and cooperation.
In Case of Emergency
Ambassadors for Quds Programme
Imaan Abrahams, Raeesa Arend, Thaakirah Wilson, Tahseen
Rahim, Thaakirah Meyer and Kaamilah Cornelius were invited
to participate in the introduction to the Ambassadors for Quds
Programme under the auspices of the MSA. The guest speaker
was a Palestinian Dr Abdullah Ma’rouf. He was brilliant in
articulating the history and current situation in Palestine and
Masjied Al Aqsa specifically.
The students were fortunate to have had this experience and
had to go back to their schools to pass on the information. We
hope to continue this and pray for the liberation of Palestine
and justice for all the oppressed peoples of the world.
Blood for Life
Many grade 10 and grade 11 students attended a two-day First
Aid Course presented by The First Aid Academy. Students were
trained in amongst others basic CPR, burns treatment and the
Heimlich manoeuvre.
Islamia
College
students
regularly host a blood clinic.
This year the school hosted 3
very successful blood clinics.
All blood clinics are organised
and managed by students,
trained by the Western Province
Blood Transfusion Service. Alfia
Murtuza, Zahra Jattiem and
Nazneen Adam did a sterling
job as peer promoters and
the Blood Clinic team from
the Western Province Blood
Transfusion Service commended
their excellent work
Little Ones, Great Achievement
Graduates at the Bismllah Ceremony held at Masjid-ul-Furqaan on the Islamia campus
Over 90 Islamia Pre-Primary and Primary School learners entered the Holy Qur’an. Seventy of these learners were from the
Foundation Phase (Grade R to 3). What a great achievement!

Preparing for the big First Day next year
Launch of Islamia Alumni
Pre-Primary head Mrs Naseema Osman with Orientation Day keynote speaker
Department of Education’s CED IMG manager, Ruth Leukes
Mr Habib Kagee (Head of Hifz Academy) and an Islamia
graduate officially launched the Islamia Alumni at the Matric
Farewell. Alumni in attendance were presented with special
badges by Naeema Osman of the Alumni committee. All Islamia
alumni are invited to get together at the Islamia Familiy Fun
Day on 1st March 2015.
A jam-packed Zohra Noor Auditorium played host to the Pre
Primary School Orientation Day. Parents were informed about
each aspect of the programmes on offer to their treasured
little ones as they prepare for their first school experience in
January 2015, insha-Allah.
Islamia Cares Foundation
Islamia Cares Foundation’s goodwill venture has grown from strength to strength, thanks to your generous support and selfless
efforts. Based at Islamia, ICF has evolved over the past three years from serving a hot meal on festive occasions to the
distribution of daily Ramadaan iftaar; as well as food parcels, clothing hampers and feeding schemes throughout the year. So,
this inter-faith and an intra-faith venture now serves many more people over a greater area throughout the year. We call upon
all students, parents and other donors to continue supporting this project and contribute towards making a positive impact on
the impoverished in our larger community.
