Public Lecture Artist Talk – DIGITALE KUNST PINAR YOLDAS „Art within Science: A Speculative Biological Approach“ Donnerstag, 18. Dezember 2014 14:00 - 15:30 Uhr Abteilung DIGITALE KUNST / Ruth Schnell Expositur Sterngasse 13, 1010 Wien Pinar Yoldas is a cross-disciplinary artist/researcher who lives and works between Durham, NC and Berlin. Pinarʼs research explores the collaborative potential between art and biological sciences. Her talk focuses on her recent project An Ecosystem of Excess. Cultural movements such as transhumanism and posthumanism reposition human in a technoscientific world as the ultimate decision maker : nature can be controlled fully thanks to biotechnology, nature can be shaped and reshaped endlessly as us humans wish. On the other hand, our desire to control nature has been threatening life on our planet: excessive consumption and exploitation of natural resources have given rise to the most urgent and the most complex dilemma humanity have ever been confronted with. This is the two faces of technoscience where Yoldasʼ works emerge. The artist who has a deep passion for art and science takes the viewer on a fantastic journey inspired by biology, ecology, anatomy and neurosicence. In the midst of political turmoil and violence, the artist offers the lux of art and science, by introducing new organs, new life forms and new ecosystems.
