The history of civilization is a long line of glorification and destruction of nature, of the longing for a wilderness, that is associated with the idea of a primordial freedom, on the one hand – and the urgent need of taming this wilderness. In this course we will trace these actions and reactions of conquering and preserving nature, as well as ideas of frontier and paradise garden.
