Sadly too, if MLK were alive today would the current events discourage him yet? I know there are times when all of us wonder- isn’t this just the same-old, same-old? How far have we really come? Are we any closer yet? I remember as a child riding in the back of the car across western Kansas on our way to grandma’s and thinking it was such a long way. My sisters learned to ask, “how many more countries?” The towns we went through quickly, it was the countries that took so long. In our journey to become the whole people of God, recognizing all the people of God as sisters and brothers rather than adversaries, we journey in times of desolation as well as victories and defeats. We dare not let recent events become defeats. We must work to make changes so that all lives are valued and no one need be afraid. Yes, some of these will involve legislation, but more than that is the reality that hearts and minds must grow in Christ to be changed. When we step back and think about it, we are attempting to do something that has not yet ever been completely done. There have been times and instances when no one was afraid and everyone was affirmed. Just not enough of them strung together to make it a new world. Rather than shrink back or throw up our hands in frustration or denial let us renew our resolve to make our world more like the one Jesus taught about where we truly treat our neighbor like we would want to be treated and no one would be afraid. Our plan is to meet once a month BUT we want to bring the experts – YOU – into the process. As we work through each section we will ask for your comments and recommendations. We will keep you posted on our progress as we go. Green tip for recycling of electronics The city accepts computers, printers, televisions, VCRs and most other electronics at the recycle center during their regular hours. These hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30am- 12:30pm. There is a drop-off for these items in one of the buildings on site. Electronic items are taken apart by federal prisoners and recycled. This gives employment to the prisoners and saves the components from being thrown out as trash. Alliance Against Family Violence will be happy to accept your old cell phones. Women's Community Y will accept cell phones, digital cameras, MP-3 players and I-pods along with laser and ink-jet toner cartridges. A container for these items is on the table outside the nursery. 5 January 23rd Judy Guenther Janette Nessmith January 24th Shannon Moreau Amanda Ross Arista Walker January 25th Vic Young January 26th Ann Crum Ralph Seever January 27th Aundrea Kleinhagen Your Giving for January 18th General Building Sunday School $3,740.94 105.00 7.06 Total $3,853.00 Attendance January 18th 8:30am Service 11:00am Service Sunday School Visitors Total 6 66 48 44 1 114 First Christian Calendar January 21st-29th, 2015 Wednesday, January 21st Prayer Group Kitterman Girl Scouts Fellowship CMF Meeting Kitterman Thursday, January 22nd 8:15am 5:30pm 6:30pm Carillons Chancel Choir 6:30pm 7:30pm Saturday, January 24th Gateway Planning Kitterman 8:00am Sunday, January 25th Week of the Laity Begins Worship 8:30am & 11:00am Sunday School 9:45am Memorial Garden Mtg Sanctuary 9:45am 4Youth Kitterman 4:00pm Monday, January 26th Prayer Breakfast Kitterman 6:30am th Sunday’s Servers January 25th 8:30am Service Lay Leader: Marji Dickson Elders: Dea Nicodemus & Erin Sack Greeters Main: Randy Walker Narthex: Marji Dickson Servers Susan Hoins*, Deedie Thrasher Ruth Kenton & Randy Walker Communion Prep & Clean up Susan Hoins 11:00am Service Elder: Richard Sack *Captain Greeters Main: Emily Cates Narthex: Katie Collins Tuesday, January 27 Foundation Mtg Kitterman 3:30pm Wednesday, January 28th Prayer Group Kitterman Elders Mtg Kitterman 8:15am 6:30pm Servers: Emily McCracken* Danielle Shea & Fred Kesinger 6:30pm 7:30pm Communion Prep: Susan Hoins Communion Clean-up: Fred Kesinger Thursday, January 29th Carillons Chancel Choir Sunday, January 25th David Bryant 913-682-7248 The driver listed for Sunday will pick up for both worship services.
