ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for
Women is the first engineering college established
in 2003 for providing education in engineering
exclusively for women. Today GSSSIETW is a
renowned and reputed institute affiliated to
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU),
Belgaum. The institute offers Undergraduate
programs
in
Instrumentation
Technology/
Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering,
Electronics
&
communication
Engineering,
Computer Science Engineering, Information Science
Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering
and Telecommunication Engineering. GSSSIETW
also offers Post graduate programs in Digital
communication & Networking, Computer science &
Engineering and MBA. GSSSIETW has a profound
focus on research and has research centers in
Electronics & Communication Engineering and
Chemistry. The Institute has experienced and
dedicated faculty members and encourages staff
and students to work in research rich environment.
PLC is a digital computer used for automation of
typical industrial electomechanical process such as
control of machines on factory assembly lines. PLC is
an example of a hard real time system since output
results must be produced in response to input
conditions within a limited time. PLCs are widely used
in motion control, positioning control and torque
control. SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data
Acquisition) is a system operating with coded signals
over communication channels so as to provide control
of remote equipment. PLCs are used in place of RTUs
in SCADA system as field devices because they are
more economical, versatile, flexible and configurable.
The purpose of this training program is to enable the
user to set up and program the PLC system. The user
will be able to program the field controllers using the
Logic Designer and the IEC61131-3 Programming
tools. The user will learn to configure and maintain
the SCADA (FAST/TOOLS) operational environment.
The participants will be exposed to simple automation
techniques through PLC and SCADA system. The
participant will do the engineering in PLC and learn
Graphical User Interface (GUI) through SCADA system.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Department of Instrumentation Technology/
Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering was
started in 2006-07 with an intake of 60 students.
The department has eleven qualified and dedicated
teaching staff & two Non-teaching staff, striving
hard toward the development of the department.
The department regularly organizes workshops,
Faculty development programmes, Seminars &
Industry institute interactions etc., for the benefit
of the student & faculties. The students of the
department have secured Eight Ranks successively
in the VTU exams since the establishment of the
department.
