Welcome 2015!
We hope you had a great Holiday Break and are gearing up for a strong finish to your high school
career! As admission applications come to a close, the Financial Aid/Scholarship portion of the
college process will begin to take shape. Be reminded that you can now begin to apply for Federal
Aid by using the FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid. We encourage you to get in
your applications as soon as possible. Be aware of deadlines & dates; we do not want you to miss
your chance! We will continue to post updated newsletters as more opportunities become available!

ZONTA FOUNDATION OF SYRACUSE, INC.
HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
The Zonta Foundation of Syracuse, Inc., provides a variety of funding opportunities to girls graduating
from high schools on Onondaga County. Students may apply for more than one scholarship/award, but
must include a completed application with all the attachments for each, as they are considered
separately.
SCHOLARSHIPS
2015 Amelia Earhart Aeronautics/STEM Scholarship – young women with proposed
majors in aeronautics, engineering, math or science
Edna B. Davis Music Scholarship – young women pursuing music education,
performance or other related degree
Ursula Pettengill Scholarship – for young women pursuing dietetics, nutrition or
another health science related degree
Jane Klausman Scholarship - awarded to a graduating high school senior girl with a
grade point average of 3.2 or higher who has applied to or has been accepted by
an accredited university/college/institute pursuing an education in business.
AWARDS
Jean M Coon Award – awarded to a young woman with an active commitment to the
community through volunteer work
Young Women in Public Affairs – awarded to a young woman with a commitment to
volunteering, experience in student government and volunteer leadership
achievements which further Zonta’s mission of advancing the status of women
and girls

2015 SECNY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
This year, SECNY FCU will award five $1000 Scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
Applications for the 2015 Scholarship Program will be available in all SECNY offices, and online
beginning 1 December.

DEADLINE ~ 31 JANUARY
TRADITION OF CARING NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is open to all local high school seniors and college students pursuing a degree in
nursing who will be enrolled during the 2015-16 school year. Recipients are selected from applicants
who meet eligibility requirements and have permanent resident in a community served by New Comer
Funeral Home. The scholarship can be used in any area of study in the field of nursing.

SEFCU & THE CREDIT UNION ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK
2015 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
In an effort to help further the education of local high school students, SEFCU and the family of John
Ilacqua, a former SEFCU Board member, are offering scholarships ranging from $500 to $2500 to
credit union members throughout the state. Seniors may be eligible to apply for one of several $1000
SEFCU Smart Sense scholarships, or $500 or $1000 awards through the annual CUANY Scholarship
Program. In addition, a one-time $2500 John Ilacqua Memorial Scholarship will also be awarded to a
high school senior planning to attend Siena College.

AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
The AXA Achievement Community Scholarship Program brings advice and access to higher education
into every community in with AXA has a presence. Every AXA Advisors’ branch office nationwide
distributes up to twelve $2000 scholarships to high school seniors who live and attend high school in
their area.
NOTE: Once 10,000 applications are received, the program will automatically close.

AMERICA’S FARMERS GROW AG LEADERS
Help fund your college education with a scholarship from America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders. This
exciting new program supports high school seniors and college students by awarding more than
$500,000 in scholarships. Students need three farmer endorsements of their application.

NY WATER ENVIRONMENT ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The New York Water Environment Association offers:
*One (1) $10,000 Major Scholarship
*One (1) $5,000 Nicholas J. Bartilucci Scholarship
(Both of these scholarships are selected from the Major Scholarship applications)
The New York Water Environment Association will also be offering a total of (6) $2000 scholarships.
*Two (2) to children of NYWEA members
*Two (2) to students enrolled at a college or university where there is a NYWEA student chapter
*Two (2) to HS students who will enroll in an environmentally related program in a four year
college/university

NYS ORGANIZATION OF MOTHERS OF TWINS CLUB
MARIE SIMMONS SCHOLARSHIP
The New York State Organization of Mothers of Twins Club is currently offering 2 scholarship on a competitive
basis, to students of multiple birth families (twins, triplets and higher order). The annual awards are $1500 each
and apply only to students of multiple birth families, who reside in NYS and are attending a college or
university.

BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
This scholarship is for high school seniors and current undergraduates who plan to major in a field of
study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive
industry.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MILITARY COMPTROLLERS
The CNY Leatherstocking Chapter is sponsoring a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors who
demonstrate exemplary leadership abilities, an interest in the financial management career field and academic
promise. The ASMC Scholarships are for students entering the fields of Finance, Accounting, Business
Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Operations Research (related to Financial Management) and
Computer Science.

ASSOCIATION OF FIRE DISTRICTS OF THE STATE OF NY
“NED CARTER” SCHOLARSHIP
In keeping with Ned’s life of community service and dedication to helping others, these awards will be
presented to those young people who will be pursuing a post-secondary career in the Community
Service related areas of endeavor at either a two or four year college next year. The student MUST be
related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of
the State of New York and must reside in NYS.

2015 CNY STEM SCHOLARS PROGRAM
This scholarship program, now in its third year, is open to graduating high school seniors in the six
Central New York counties (Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison, Cortland, Oneida, Oswego and Tompkins).
Eligibility requirements include: a GPA of 3.0 or above, plan to major in a STEM field, and is a
Central New York resident and starting a college degree program in Fall 2015. The online application

CPCU SOCIETY 2015 SCHOLARSHIP
The Syracuse Chapter of the CPCU Society is pleased to accept scholarship applications from seniors
planning to work in one of the careers that can be found in the Risk Management and Insurance
Industry. Career options range from trainee to management levels in many fields and provide

NYS DEPUTIES ASSOCIATION, INC.
2015 SCHOLARSHIPS
Thomas J. Krajci Memorial Scholarship
Applicants must be a NYS resident, graduating from high school and pursuing a career in criminal
justice or labor relations.
Deputy Glenn Searles Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Onondaga County Deputy Glenn Searles who was killed in
the line of duty in November of 2003. Applicants must: be residents of Onondaga County, a
graduating high school senior, be attending an institution of higher learning in the fall and be pursuing
a career in criminal justice. Applications may be completed online or printed and completed by hand.

SUNY is offering two Financial Aid Days to assist prospective students and their families in applying
for financial aid and completion of the FAFSA forms. These workshops are offered free of charge and

Scholarship Application Instructions
 Applications requiring documents from the Counseling Center (transcript, counselor
letter of recommendation or nomination) should be brought to the Counseling
Center 10 school days in advance of scholarship deadline.
 All materials will be mailed directed from the Counseling Center.
 Each application must include a completed Scholarship Application
Processing Form, $1 (postage/handling), and an envelope addressed as indicated
on the application.
 Those scholarship applications not requiring any supporting documentation from
the high school can be mailed directly by the student.
