Our year began with our Whole School Theme ‘Building Learning Power’ Building learning power Resilience Resourcefulness Reflectiveness Relationships We looked at the four pieces of the puzzle that help us to become better learners: Resilience, Reflectiveness, Relationships and Resourcefulness. We did lots of activities to help to think about how we can use those skills to be the best we can be. We have learnt about our city and how it has changed over the years. To learn more about how the Second World War affected Coventry, we visited the Transport Museum. We went in the ‘Blitz Experience’, handled some artefacts and sat in an Anderson shelter. We also found examples of our team cars. It was a great trip. Year 4 very much enjoyed reading ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo and used this to inspire their writing. We explored the characters and setting and how the writer uses description. Then, we wrote our own stories about being an evacuee. Year 4 were lucky to have a visit from a real evacuee. Granny P talked to the children about her wartime experiences. The children asked her lots of interesting questions and learnt a lot about how it must have felt to be an evacuee. Thank you Granny P! Year 4 visited the Partnership Centre in Cheylesmore. They learnt about electricity and how to make an electrical circuit. They also found out that there are lots of different kinds of switches and when these might be used. In science we learnt about sound. We found out that sound travels in waves and can travel through different materials. We had fun doing lots of different experiments. We could see and feel the vibrations made by different sounds. We are learning how to play the mini steel pans. We learnt about how the pans are made and where they come from. We can play ‘Frere Jaques’ ‘Oh When the Saints’ and ‘Jingle Bells’! Juggy brought in some of his own instruments and played for us. He was amazing!
