Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library membership drive began in June for
the year 2014-2015. Thank you to all of our Friends who have
taken the time to renew their memberships, and thank you to all

Night of Joy
Celebrate the holiday season with a community-wide celebration,
sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Night of Joy is a communitybased celebration of the holiday season with music, dancing, singing, and
other artful expressions. This program will be held at the Kinston-Lenoir
County Public Library on Thursday, December 4 at 7 p.m. and at the
Greene County Public Library on Tuesday, December 16 at 7 p.m. For

Sanctuary Bells
The Sanctuary Bells of Gordon Street Christian Church will perform at
4 p.m. on Sunday, December 14 at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public
Library. The Sanctuary Bells, founded in 1974, is an advanced handbell
ensemble from Gordon Street Christian Church in Kinston. Under the
direction of Joanne M. Heath, Minister of Music, the ensemble is
composed of experienced volunteer handbell ringers. Please join us in
enjoying an afternoon of beautiful holiday music. For reservations, please

Rick & Jane Vernon and Friends
On Sunday, December 21 at 3 p.m. Rick & Jane Vernon will present an
afternoon with Friends at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.
They will perform traditional Christmas carols and lead the audience in
sing-a-longs. Joining the Vernons on stage will be vocalist/guitarist Vance
“Tres” Rich and drummer John Galog. Take an afternoon away from the
hustle and bustle of shopping to enjoy heart-warming holiday music. For

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
The Children’s Department will present Dr. Seuss’s holiday classic How the
Grinch Stole Christmas! Monday, December 15 at 7 p.m. in the Schechter
Auditorium at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library. Come
celebrate the magic of the holiday season and share your last minute

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library will have a book
sale on Saturday, January 24, 2015, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday,
January 25, 2015, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. There will be books, furniture,

Game Day Extravaganza
School is out and the kids are restless! Bring everyone out for a Game Day
Extravaganza at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library on Monday,
December 22 at 3 p.m. The Children’s Room will be Game Central. Bring
friends for group gaming and competitions. We will have gaming
competitions on the big screen with a giant, larger than life Connect Four
game, Corn Hole, chess, checkers, and many more. For more information,

Urban Literature Book Club
The Urban Literature Book Club will meet on Thursday, December 18 at
6:30 p.m. the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library to discuss The
Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. Hip-hop star, political activist and
writer, Sister Souljah, exhibits a raw and true voice in this cautionary tale
protesting drugs and violence among young African-Americans in the

Book Chatter
Miss Holly, the Spanish teacher, is taking the holidays way too far in this
holiday edition of the My Weird School Series. Join us for Book Chatter in
the Children’s Theater at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library
Wednesday, December 17 at 4 p.m. We will discuss Miss Holly is Too Jolly

Gingerbread House Program
Meet us at the Comfort Public Library on Tuesday, December 16 at 4:30
p.m. for an afternoon of Gingerbread House building. You can eat your
creation or take it home with you. Also on Friday, December 19 at 6:30
p.m. the Pink Hill Public Library will have a gingerbread house program
that will provide the holiday goodies, but you must provide your own

Family Game Time

American Girl Doll Raffle
The Kinston-Lenoir County Friends of the Library are holding a
fundraiser throughout the month of November. American Girl Doll Julie
will be raffled off at a drawing on Wednesday, December 10 at 2 p.m.
at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library. Tickets are $1 per ticket
or 6 tickets for $5. All money raised will go towards funding children’s
services at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library. For more

Noon Year Celebration
5...4...3...2...1… Happy Noon Year! Count down to the Noon Year in the
Children’s Room at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library on
Wednesday, December 31 at 11:30 a.m. Make noise makers and party
hats and count down to the Noon Year as we watch the Book Drop at 12

Building Lego Mindstorm
Come join us on Saturday, December 20 at 3 p.m. at the KinstonLenoir County Public Library as we build a working Lego MindStorm
robot! Teens will help construct and program a robot that can perform a
variety of actions such as recognizing colors, walking and even talking.

Gear up for School
Gear up for school with an afternoon of literacy and brain games.
Students will play literacy games and answer thought-provoking
