Grilling the Boss: An Exclusive Interview with Rick Gorman Written by: Jason Kenneally, Aaron Kenneally & Thomas Cacace What is your favorite thing about running the Youth Center? The best part is working with an amazing group of kids in North Andover. Working with the youth helping them through tough adolescent issues and watching them grow. What’s your favorite Youth Center program? I love the North Andover Fall Ball League, because that’s the only program I still run. Our gift drives – our Thanksgiving Drive and Holiday Gift Drive. There’s amazing work we do with those two programs. My favorite program is the Simon Potter Project. Once or twice a year we collaborate with a lot of people around town to really help out someone in need and help get them on their feet. If you were a Youth Center member, what program would you do? Anything sports related, the Elevated Thought C3 Art Program, and I would start a Youth Center radio show. Which 2 staff members would you pick for your 3 on 3 basketball team? I would pick Demi because she would always pass me the ball, and Molly because she would hurt all the other players on the court. What’s your favorite sport besides basketball? Are there any sports besides basketball? Besides basketball, I’m a huge football and lacrosse fan. What’s your favorite quote? “Too much passion is not enough passion” and “Stay hungry, stay humble.” Who’s your favorite Kenneally? Mrs. Kenneally. No, who’s your favorite Kenneally kid? Sean. To start, there were two games played for 6th grade, two for 7th & 8th grade, and then two games played by all eliminated players. Those 6 winners would play in a championship round. To win it all, the competitors who advance to the champion round, play rounds until someone wins twice – the winner must win a second time to get the ticket. Jake Landry kicked the tournament off with the first shot in the 6th grade game. The winner for the first 6th grade was Chris Pensavalli, and the second game was Jake Landry. In the 7th & 8th grade games the first winner was Maxx Baron, and Eric Doherty for the second game. Every eliminated player had two chances for a wild card spot, and those wins went to Joey Walsh and Jakob Hamel-Porter. Those 6 players went to the championship round, where there could technically be 7 games played (if everyone won once), until a winner was crowned with two wins. The championship round ended up lasting for 3 games, with 6th grader Chris Pensavalli winning the first game, and wild card player Joey Walsh winning the next two games in a row to take home the title and the ticket to Sky Zone! Congratulations Joey! Check out pictures from the games below! Brooks Skating Have you taken advantage of one of the best winter activities North Andover has to offer? Public Skating is open on Sunday nights from November – February at the Dansforth Gymnasium at Brooks School. It runs from 6:45-8:40pm and costs $3 per person. Gather your family and friends, grab your ice skates, and head down to Brooks on Sunday nights!
