Dear brothers and sisters, MARRIAGE PREPARATION Engaged couples seeking a preparation course may be able to take advantage of our weekend course to take place February 27 & 28, 2015. Contact the parish office for registration information. Monsignor Joseph Muldoon We are here today to share a summary of our lives with you. My mom and I came from a Muslim family but we gave our hearts to Jesus and accepted him as our God when we were living in Iran. Because of the punishment for changing religion and other problems we were forced to leave. We went to Turkey and applied to United Nations to be a refugee. We were accepted as refugees after some years and lived there for seven years. I was working in that period. My last job in Turkey was as an interpreter. I worked as an interpreter in an association related to United Nations for 3 years to help asylum seekers and migrants. My mom learned to make leather crafts and was busy with her training. In 2013 we had an interview with the Canadian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. We were accepted to come to Canada as permanent residents on November 19, 2013. Only 3 days before coming to Canada were we told that Ottawa, rather than Vancouver, would be our destination. It was only on our arrival in Toronto that we learned that we would be met in Ottawa by members of a church. We were shocked by all these surprises but we know they were all God's plan in our lives because of our faith and prayers. We won't forget the days that people from your church were around us, to help find an apartment and to help bring stuff to our beautiful apartment in Bayshore. During the past year many things happened in our lives. We found Iranian friends here and connected to Woodvale Pentecostal Church through them and started serving there as ushers. I returned with my mom to Turkey to marry my fiancé of 3 years. I have applied to sponsor my husband to come to Canada. He converted to Christianity too and is doing his internship in Redeemer Church of Dubai. I volunteered in a community house during the winter and later applied for work in many areas. In September I was hired as Program Assistant in another community house. I started French classes to be open to more opportunities and to progress in the work field. My mom has started English classes. She continues to do leather crafts at home and has attend several craft sales in the Bayshore area with her work. This is a short summary of our lives and faith in God. I want to give thanks to God for his beautiful and timely plan. I want to thank Monsignor Joe and his team for their patience, kindness and support during this year. I want to thank Barb, Cindy, Marianne, Mary Jean, Ann, Richard, Kim, Julian, Caroline and Bill for their support and time. God bless you, Ziba & Rouhangiz Mother Teresa When Jesus came into the world, he loved it so much that he gave his life for it. He wanted to satisfy our hunger for God. And what did he do? He made himself the Bread of Life. He became small, fragile, and defenseless for us. Bits of bread can be so small that even a baby can chew them, even a dying person can eat them. He became the Bread of Life to satisfy our hunger for God, our hunger for love. Source: No Greater Love POPE’S INTENTION FOR JANUARY Universal: Peace – May those from diverse religious traditions and all people of good will work together for peace. Evangelization: Consecrated life – May in this year dedicated to consecrated life, religious men and women rediscover the joy of following Christ and strive to serve the poor with zeal. WORLD DAY OF PEACE – Jan. 1 The World Day of Peace was established by Pope Paul VI in 1968 who asked that “every year, this commemoration be repeated as a hope and as a promise, at the beginning of the calendar which measures and outlines the path of human life in time, that Peace with its just and beneficent equilibrium may dominate the development of events to come.” Each year has a specific theme, chosen by the Holy Father. OFFERTORY ENVELOPES Your 2015 assigned boxed offertory envelopes are available for pick up in the entranceway. If you would like to use envelopes but have not done so in the past, take an unassigned box and record it on the form found on the clipboard. Also, clearly mark your name and address on the first several you use. That numbered set will then become assigned to you. Please do not use any 2015 envelopes before nor any 2014 envelopes after January 1, 2015. HELP US TO HELP YOU: Please clearly mark the amount of your donation on the front of each envelope. Once the contents are removed by the cash counters, the office has no other way of knowing the amount to record for your tax receipt. If you would like to begin automatic debit for your donations to the church, please complete the form found on the end of the envelope table and leave it at the office along with a void cheque. We will be happy to accommodate you. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY BLESSING – January 17 & 18 If you are celebrating a wedding anniversary in January and would like to receive a blessing at one of the Masses on the weekend of January 17 & 18, please call the office and leave your name, the number of years married and the Mass you plan to attend.
