Based on the belief that "Language is the foundation to link the world in peace," the university is dedicated to developing individuals with the ability to communicate with people all over the world. KUIS has four undergraduate departments: English, Asian Languagee,Spanish and Portuguese,and International Communication.In addition, the graduate school offers two M.A. programs in English Linguistics and Japanese Linguistics and a Ph.D. program in Language Sciences. Since the founding of the university, KUIS has produced a large number of Japanese teachers by offering an undergraduate program as well as postgraduate degree program in Japanese Language Pedagogy. Class activities will not only emphasize practice and understanding but also authentic use of the language. The beginner levels of Japanese Interaction Basic, 1, and 2 will enable students to use Japanese to function in everyday life situations. In addition, the classes aim to promote students’ ability to create communicative interactions. The intermediate levels of Japanese Interaction 3 and 4 aim to help students become skilled in dealing with various topics by considering the situation concerned. Topics will range from those of personal interests, daily life, to more abstract issues related to society and culture. The upper-intermediate levels of Japanese Interaction 5 and 6 are designed to help students become proficient in communicating about not only personal and abstract societyrelated topics, but also specialized topics, while taking the feelings of the person/people they speak to into consideration. . The beginner level classes will enable students to communicate with Japanese people in daily life contexts by systematically building up a foundation of grammatical structures and everyday expressions. The advanced classes will develop students’ Japanese language ability further through the use of authentic materials. All levels of the course will study areas such as Chinese characters (kanji), reading comprehension, and writing composition. The specific goal is placed on reading and writing by raising their skills in correct usage of sentence structures, vocabulary, and expressions. It is also hoped that this course will reinforce and broaden students’ knowledge of Chinese characters and Chinese-based vocabulary for reading and writing through expanding their corpus of vocabulary in communication. . This course is offered only to students who completed the beginning level Japanese. 5 修業年限と修了要件 Program Length & Requirements for Completion 留学生別科を修了するためには1年（2学期）在籍し、必修の日本語科目16単位及び選択科目12単位の合計28単位を取得する ことが必要です。短期留学プログラム（交換留学生）で別科に学期単位で在籍する場合は履修証明書を発行し単位を認定します。 One academic year (two semesters) and completion of 28 course credits (16 credits of mandatory Japanese language courses + 12 credits of elective courses) are required to complete the Japanese Language and Culture Program. Short-term university exchange students may choose to enroll in the program for one semester. At the International area, a section is established to introduce Japanese textbooks published in other countries and Japanese culture. In the Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnam, Thai, Brazilian/Portuguese booths, traditional buildings are displayed and students can understand respective countries’ life styles and cultures. International news is televised in the MULC. MULC also has educational information equipments so that students can learn about respective countries. MULC is designed as a creative atmosphere where students and faculty members can collaborate across various nationalities. アルバイト Part-time Jobs 留学生は入国管理局の発行する 「資格外活動許可書」を取得すれ ば、1週間28時間の範囲内でアルバイトをすることができます。本学 では「資格外活動許可書」の申請手続きを代行することができます。 で、本学では来日後2ヵ月以上が経ち、アルバイトが学業に支障ない と認めた学生に限り 「資格外活動許可書」の申請手続きを認めます。 住居 Students Residences 大学近辺で民間アパートを探す場合、風呂・トイレつきの部屋は月 額で最低6万円かかります。また、借りる際には家賃の3∼4ヵ月分が 初期費用として必要になります。 For individuals who wish to stay in private apartments, housing rental fee near the university usually costs 60,000 yen and up. In general, private apartments require three to four months' fee in advance for housing deposit and key money. Students can apply through KUIS for a part-time work permit which allows up to 28 work hours per week. However, students may not apply for the permit until at least two months after arrival on campus, and have demonstrated that part-time work would not negatively affect their program studies. It is a place where students can study in a warm, welcoming environment, and access a large variety of learning materials. The first floor contains 150 computers both Windows and Macintosh to allow students free access to email and the internet. The computers are equipped with multi-language software so that international students may communicate/send and receive email in their mother tongue. The second floor language center is where students gather to improve their (foreign) language skills. Students can also enjoy satellite TV which broadcasts 18 overseas channels in 11 languages. The annual insurance fee is about 13,000 yen 9 奨学金制度・留学生支援システム Scholarships・The Student Support System 学校法人 神田外語大学留学生別科 住居・生活補助奨学金 KUIS Monthly Living Expenses Support Scholarship 別科の学生は全員に月額2万円の｢住居・生活補助奨学金｣が 1学期間支給されます（5ヵ月分） 。ただし、毎月の出席率が 90%を超えていることが条件となります。学期末の成績が優 秀な学生（ＧＰＡ3.25以上）は更に1学期間支給されます。 ※交換留学生で、日本学生支援機構 （JASSO） の奨学金を受給している学生 はこの補助金を受給することができません。 All students who are admitted to the Program are eligible to receive 20,000 yen per month of Living Expenses Support for the first semester (5 months). However, students must have 90% and above class attendance to maintain eligibility. Students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or above in the first semester are eligible to receive an additional 20,000 yen per month of Living Expenses Support for the second semester (5 months). Kanda University students with a deep concern for Japanese Education, International Exchange and Intercultural Communication act as enthusiastic volunteers through their buddy and tutor roles. While participating in one-to-one interaction, international students can receive advice and assistance concerning Japanese Language and life in Japan. The place resembles a small British countryside village complete with castle, British style guesthouses, English speakers, country gardens and surroundings. Students of the Japanese Language and Culture Program will have the opportunity to travel together to British Hills for an overnight stay and enjoy time with classmates. 10 11
