James 1:25 The Easter news of resurrection hope impacts our lives today! Freed from fear of death in all its forms, we are empowered to live out our faith as compassionate, generous people bringing the light of Christ to the world. Heroin addiction is now the number one cause of death for teens across the country. Teens in Kenosha now have twice the chance of dying from heroin addiction than in an automobile accident. Drug dealers lace marijuana with heroin to give the user a better high without the user knowing that he or she is becoming a heroin addict. Lastly, increased drug use leads to higher incidences of vandalism and home robberies as addicts seek to find drugs or money to buy them. This issue affects us all. This is very scary stuff. Adults and teens who become addicted to drugs often begin the path to addiction by misusing legally prescribed pain medication. So it's important to properly dispose of any unused medication and to keep current medications in locked containers designed for this purpose. I pray each of us will take a moment this month to educate ourselves on the dangers of heroin and drug addiction and talk with our children about those dangers. At Trinity, we strive to offer youth and young adults a safe and healthy community that supports them as they experience the ups and downs of life. This is one of many reasons we offer choices in our worship experience so that those people including youth and young adults who prefer more contemporary music may have that experience. On Sunday, May 4 during the 10:30 service, we celebrate with the families of our confirmands as these young brothers and sisters affirm their faith in Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God! Also, beginning on Sunday, May 25 (Memorial Day weekend), we begin our summer worship times of 8:00 (Traditional) and 9:30 (Family Friendly). Weekly Tuesday Taize at 7:00pm will also continue with Holy Communion being offered weekly beginning on Tuesday, May 27. God created everything through the Word and called it good. Life IS good. Together, let's continue the journey of living out that goodness through our faith community at Trinity and through our service in the world. God bless and with love, Pastor Tom Worship and Christian Education -Feel in good health on the day of donation. First Communion April 17th, 2014 Cambell Casper, Elliana Virgili, Gwen Hammond Saturday Morning Bible Study May 24th, 8:30-10:00 a.m., upstairs in the Sunday School area (No meeting May 10th) Saturday Study usually meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month (but not this month!). We are in the beginning of a new study series, ―Good God Questions.‖ What’s in a question? The asking can be an entry point for new discovery. Questions about God can open us to a deeper understanding of the character of God and God’s mission in the world. All are welcome to the conversation. Bring your favorite Bible and your own experiences as we ask the questions with the DVD assistance of Professors from Luther Seminary. For additional information, contact Tammie at 654-3256 or [email protected]. He is Risen indeed! Easter Celebrations 5 Social Justice Social Justice Ministry and CUSH The Social Justice Ministry meets on the 1st Sunday of the month, in the church library. The next meeting will be on May 4th at 9:10 am, if there are agenda items at that time. Please contact Jay Labedz ([email protected] or 6548852) if you are interested in attending the meeting. The committee often communicates by email to determine whether a meeting is needed. If anyone from Trinity is interested in serving on the CUSH board as a representative from Trinity, please call Jay Labedz at 654-8852. The monthly board meetings are typically held at Beth Hillel Temple on the 4th Thursday of each month. There are also issue task forces that meet monthly. You may wish to attend or support one of these task forces. CUSH has task forces to address food shortages, homelessness, and transportation in our community as well as immigration on the state -wide and federal level. Please remember CANS FOR CUSH on May 4th. Please drop off any bagged aluminum cans in the back hallway of the church on the 1st Sunday of each month. The recycling money will benefit CUSH and Social Ministry needs. Care for Creation The CUSH rummage sale is tentatively scheduled for June 21st. Please think about donating items when you are doing your spring-cleaning. We will also need volunteers to sort and price as well as work the day of the sale. Mark your calendar! That's hundreds of millions of cartridges that end up in landfills every year, made with plastics that can take at least 1,000 years to decompose. Not a good thing. Trinity continues to serve the community in many ways through the efforts of members doing social ministry. The Shalom Center Soup Kitchen, Cupboard Bound food program, Lutheran World Relief, Busy Bees, CUSH, and Women and Children’s Horizon’s programs continue. If you would like to get involved with one of these important ministries, please speak with the contact person listed under Church Leadership Team in this Tidings. Beginning the first Sunday in May the Care for Creation team will be collecting empty ink cartridges for recycling. Over 13 cartridges are discarded in the U.S. every second, according to CartridgeFundraising.com. Please deposit your ink cartridges in the receptacle in the entry hallway. 6 7 14 13 27 7:00 PM Taize Service 7:00 PM Venture Group 26 Memorial Day - Office Closed 25 8:00 AM Worship Service 9:30 AM Worship Service 20 5:30 PM Finance Ministry 6:00 PM Council Ministry 7:00 PM Taize Service 7:00 PM Venture Group 6:30 PM Witness Ministry 7:00 PM Taize Service 7:00 PM Venture Group 19 7:00 PM Boy Scouts 8:00 AM Worship Service 10:30 AM Worship Service 18 12 2:30 PM Co-Sponsored Blood Drive 7:00 PM Boy Scouts 11 Mother's Day New Member Sunday 8:00 AM Worship Service 10:30 AM Worship Service 7 28 8:30 AM Sunday's Com'n 4:30 PM Preschool Family Picnic 5:30 PM Trinity Choir Rehearsal 6:30 PM TrinityUkes!
