TE KURA O TE PĀROA
School Newsletter No. 3
Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,
2014 PREFECTS
As stated in our Graduate Profile, at Te
Kura o Te Pāroa we aspire to equip our
tamariki with the skills and attitudes to
become tangata rongonui – positive
role models and leaders.
After a very involved application
process, we are pleased to announce
our student leaders for 2014:
Kaaka MacDonald
Kiri Taylor
Rere Williams
Neelan Wera-Cook
Austyn Te Naiti
Dorhryen Allen-Heremia
Brooklyn Williams
Caitlin McGougan
Tayla Boynton
Congratulations to the Prefects of 2014.
We are all very proud of their success,
and look forward to their leadership
throughout the year!
2014 SCHOOL DONATION
The Board of Trustees asks each family
to make a donation to the kura each
year. This donation contributes
towards the cost of sports subsidies,
bus transport and special events for our
tamariki. This year the Board has
decided to maintain the same level as
last year, and is asking whānau for a
donation of $30 for one child or $50 per
whānau. Your support is most
appreciated!
BUS MESSAGES
If you need to notify the kura of
changes to your child’s afternoon bus
run, we ask that you please ring the
school before 1:45pm. We cannot
guarantee that changes to bus
schedules made after 1:45pm will be
received by classroom teachers. Thank
you!

SCHOOLS NEWS
The first friendly round for all ages is
scheduled for March 29th. Check the
paroaJAB Facebook page for updates.
The annual Pāroa JAB Sevens
tournament is planned for April 19th.
Team coaches will be selecting players.
Due to an upgrade of the fields at the
clubrooms on Huna Road, all home
games will be played at Rugby Park until
further notice.
Fees for 2014 have been set at $20 per
player. These fees cover administrative
costs, equipment, and a sausage at every
home game. Fees are payable to team
managers by March 29th.
The club is currently looking for coaches
for Rippa grades, Under 9 and Under 10.
Please contact the club if you can help!
And finally, a boot swap and Pāroa
merchandise will be available at training
on Thursdays. Bring along your old
boots!
If you have any questions, please
contact:
Rhys Mischefski (027)-457-8718,
Jimmy McLean (027)-372-8102 or
John Harawera (027)-434-7435.
2014 NETBALL
Next Tuesday is the last date for 2014
netball team registrations. Unfortunately,
at the moment only 5 players have paid
their $35 subs for the season.
While Te Kura o Te Pāroa strongly
encourages our tamariki to participate in
sports, we are not in a position to fully
subsidise almost $3000 worth of team
fees.
All interested whānau are asked to
please have their 2014 netball
registrations in to the kura no later than
Tuesday, March 11th.
Participation in organised sports is key,
not only to the physical well-being of
tamariki, but to their long-term success at
school. Please help us to ensure that all
students continue to have the opportunity
to play!
SUNSMART / SWIMMING
We ask that all whānau please ensure
their tamariki have a hat at school at all
times throughout Terms 1 and 4. If
students do not have hats, they will be
directed to the shaded areas, where they
will remain until the end of play time.
The ability to swim is vital for all New
Zealanders, and may someday save your
child’s life. Please ensure that your
tamariki have their togs and towel at
school and are ready to swim every day
so that they don’t miss out on this
important life skill.
