Color NL 2014.11 - Maltby Food Bank

A HELPING HAND: Thank you to Gene Whiteside of
Whiteside Towing. Many times we have had a client’s
car that wouldn’t start or their keys have accidently
been locked inside the car. We have Gene on speed
dial. He always graciously comes to the rescue, free
of charge. Thank you Gene for all the years you have
helped the Food Bank.
TURKEYS: Rocky and Ardis W., without you, our
clients would not have had Turkeys this year for
Thanksgiving. You both are incredibly generous. I
promise next year, I will get the newsletter out sooner
so more people can help if they want! – Natalie
NEWSLETTER: I want to thank Lori Rosencrans for
waiting patiently for me to gather info for the
newsletter, then, of course, we need it to be done
ASAP. You always have a great attitude, and never
make me feel guilty!
CLEANING SUPPLIES: Verax Janitorial Supplies off
of Broadway near the Maltby Park helped us
tremendously by donating all the cleaning supplies we
need to sweep and mop our floors. Verax employees
also donate their time to drop off food for the food bank.
If you need cleaning supplies, stop by their office. They
are open to the public!
A NEW SHED: A huge thank you to Tim Barclay and
the Bothell United Methodist Church for donating a
much needed shed. It is surprising how fast one of
those Tuff Sheds can be built on site. It has helped us
with our lack of space issues!
OUR FRIENDS: We would like to thank Jim and Jan
Conover for all of their time, work, ideas, and laughter.
They really made a difference at the food bank and we
have missed them every week they have been gone.
PRODUCE: Again this year, we received beautiful produce from Clair and her farm, Root Connection, Clair is the
first person who reached out to us years ago and every year her crops have surpassed our expectations. Jerry
Stansberry (& crew) and Bailey’s Farm worked through this season to bring us excellent produce. Jerry, we will
miss your weekly donations with your bright smile and little red truck coming up our driveway. Bob’s Corn,
Shepherd of the Hills Garden, Wanda’s Salon, Silver Lake Water District, Father Jim Eichner and Food Bank Farm,
and many personal gardens. Thank you to all who planted a row or a field for us. The clients have never had so
much healthy food as they have had this year. Thank you to all for the hard work in your gardens. We appreciate
you and please, please keep us in mind when you plant your next garden.
BACK TO SCHOOL BACKPACKS: With the help of several individual donors and the following companies, we
were able to hand out 179 backpacks this August, CMC Biologics Employees put together many, many wonderful
backpacks for the children of the food bank. There were lots of ooohs and aahhs as the children picked out which
one was going to be theirs. We had a gentleman who purchased head phones, calculators, flash drives, and
combination locks, etc. and he dropped them off with a big smile. He has done this for a couple of years now and
always gets away without us finding out his name! Woodinville MOMS group also contributed many of the supplies
we needed. Thank you all for the wonderful donations that made the children excited to begin the new school year.
THANK YOU, FRIENDS, FOR…..
Save the date of September 12, 2015 for another fun filled evening of bidding wars and great wins. If you are interested
in joining the auction committee or making a donation to the auction, please contact committee chair Kristine Willson.
The Maltby Food Bank’s past auctions have been a huge success. It is an entertaining evening full of laughter with
guests bidding on fun auction items such as trips, tickets, and unique experiences while the auctioneer cajoles bidders
into raising their bids. The generosity of the community is very much appreciated.
The auction committee is looking for help with event planning which includes invitations, decorations, donation
procurement, sponsor procurement, data entry, graphic design, marketing, and much more. This is a rewarding
opportunity to support the Maltby Food Bank and work together with your neighbors.
The kickoff planning meeting will be mid-January, place and time yet to be determined. If you are interested in learning
more about the auction and to find out how you can help please contact Kristine Willson, auction chair, at
[email protected] or by calling (206) 854-1182. As soon as the details for the kick off meeting are confirmed, you
will be contacted.
Planning for the Maltby Food Bank Charity Auction and Dinner is about to begin. The fundraiser is scheduled for
September 12, 2015, at the Echo Falls Country Club with auctioneer Kevin Van Hollebeke.

One of the reasons we have been able to meet the needs of
our clients at the Food Bank is due to the generosity of our
community in conducting food drives. Some are small and
some are large but all are important. Many businesses,
churches, schools, Scouts and individuals keep us in mind as
they plan community support activities and for this we are very
thankful. Particularly as the holidays approach, we would
welcome anyone who would like to sponsor a food drive. If
you are interested in holding a food drive, please contact
Dianne Linden at 360 668-1463 and leave a message.
