Legal Issues in Coding
This program will address common misconceptions about
what constitutes fraud, as well as the liabilities that coders
face, whether working directly as an employee of a provider
or functioning in a third party billing situation. Specifically,
we will address what makes a claim legally false , when
fraud liability is likely attached to coders (and when it likely
isn't) and we will provide some best practices for resolving
situations that often causes coders to be concerned. By the
end of this program, attendees will better understand when
they need to be concerned and what they can do to mitigate
their personal risk.
Ms. Edwards has been in the coding and
billing profession for 25 years. AAPC is
proud to have her as an AAPC-approved
PMCC instructor, ICD-10 Trainer and AAPC
Workshop Presenter.

Many door prizes!!!
Why ICD-10? Per CMS, the benefits of ICD-10 will pave the
way for more accurate payment of new procedures, better
administrative performance, and improve patient care. We
will discuss how the similarities, as well as the differences of
both systems. It may time to get comfortable with ICD-10,
but hopefully you will see how the advantages of ICD-10
greatly outweigh ICD-9.

a Network Consultant for the last 12 years. She currently works as a

Hands-On ICD-10 Exercises
and Documentation Review
* * * Please bring your ICD-10 Manuals/Drafts
if you have them.* * *
For our last session, we will do some hands-on
ICD-10 coding. If you don't have a book, we will
have the information on a projector. We are going to
work many scenarios to practice coding with
ICD-10. We will also help you look for the
documentation to substantiate the new code. This
session will help you with your own personal game
plan for tackling ICD-10.
