Cleveland Local RSPB Group Minutes of the committee meeting held on Thursday July 10th 2014 at 163, Roseberry Rd., Redcar 1. Present:Terry Reeve (chair) welcomed committee members Ian Boddy, Peter and Vana Chadwick, Elaine and John Cooke, Joan Hornby and Margaret Kirby. 2. Minutes of previous meeting (May 15th 2014) Agreed and signed as a true record of the meeting. 3. Matters Arising PC has still to be formally registered as treasurer - required form not yet located. IB has still to order notice boards from RSPB. 4. Main Business Recent events • Bolton Abbey Coach Trip Sunday 18th May 2014 Thirty-five seats taken on coach, such that the cost of the coach and the £1 per head parking at Bolton Abbey was almost covered. JC queried if another year coach could drop off at of the estate. JH thought no coach access there. • Upper Teesdale Sunday June 15th 2014 Attended by seven members, a small number despite clement weather – attendance may have been affected by the fact that it was Father’s day. Forthcoming Event • Bishop Middleham Sunday 13th July 2014 No leader at present. JC/VC will be present and will lead if no-one else can. Programme of Events 2014/2015 Certain final arrangements for the 14/15 programme of events were discussed:- Guide at High Batts on November 16th has been booked. Guide queried if the group would wish to be accompanied to other reserves. Agreed guide for 2 hours max, then individuals in the group would make own arrangements. - TR has asked Atkinson’s for quotes for coach outings (April Spurn Head; October Northumberland Coast). TR opened the discussion on the charge for the coach trips this coming year. AGREED to maintain the charge at £12.50 per person and to increase the ‘shortfall’ facility from club funds from £50 per trip to £75. - Agreed recky was required for Northumberland outing PC/VC volunteered to undertake this. JC/EC have leaflet on Northumberland nature reserves which they will pass on to assist planning. - VC has organised recky for morning of Monday 8th September at Rosedale Intake, Danby in preparation for visit May 2015. 5. Reports - Treasurer PC reported a balance of £1726 in bank. Agreed a further donation to RSPB would be made if funds remained in excess of £1000. In anticipation of the donation, TR proposed that members should have say in how RSPB used the funds. Agreed that TR would produce list of available projects. IB to promote on website and JH to place printed sheet on chairs at a forthcoming meeting. - Fundraising £1300 has been raised from pin badge sales this financial year to date. System for pin badges is under going change centrally by RSPB at present. It is not clear how this may impact on future sales. - Membership No report. JH needs newsletter by end of August 2014. In turn this requires a completed calendar of events to be passed to Steve Hunter without delay. - Webmaster IB has completed redesign of subscription form. The document is now available from the website. IB to send a PDF version to TR to organise print out of forms. 6. Correspondence - RSPB, advising of changes to pin badge selection – 83 species of birds and other animals now available to showcase their ‘All Nature’ initiative. NOTED - Certificate of Public Liability Insurance received for the coming year. NOTED - RSPB, updated list of available leaflets. TR to order an appropriate selection for display at monthly meetings. - RSPB, list of items available for order by local shops. NOTED - RSPB, News and Views – one point of interest was that membership nationally has reached an all time high, standing at over 1.1 million. NOTED - RSPB, Legal Eagle – report of prosecutions for the mis-treatment of animals. NOTED - RSPB, Conservation Planner. TR to pass to Steve Hunter for newsletter and IB for notice board at monthly meetings. 7. Any Other Business There being no further business, members were thanked for their attendance and the meeting was closed at 9.32pm, with thanks to TR for providing the venue and Margaret Reeve for refreshments.
