Stayed Tuned as the Details Unfold… An Event Not to be Missed!! Principal’s Corner Here we are at the start of another fun-filled and frantic year of education for your child at Border Christian College! Sometimes the start of something like this is like the bumper sticker that read: Get in! Sit down! Shut up! And hang on! Well, it can be as raw as that at times, but I’d like to think there is much more care in the process. A school program in the current era is a mosaic of life experiences that will assist your child in their development and preparation for ‘real life in the big world.’ How do you prepare a child for that? It’s a work of art, but most importantly it is teamwork. We look forward to working with you as partners in your child’s education, because a team approach in these matters helps to deliver the best results in not only their school work, but also in moral and social development. May God give us all the necessary will and skills to accomplish such a task. Regards for now, Phil Murray PRINCIPAL WHAT’S NEW ON OUR WEBSITE AND APP? Both men are Pastors of local Seventh-day Adventist churches in the Albury / Wodonga area. Pastor Ben has recently moved to Albury from the Northern Tablelands in NSW and is now a resident in Thurgoona. Pastor Dragan moved to Australia several years ago from Yugoslavia and now lives is Wodonga. Border Christian College looks forward to the valuable contributions both of these men will bring to our school this year and pray that the contact they have with our students during the Chapel and Lighthouse Programs and the time they spend on the playgrounds and in each classroom throughout the year brings a greater knowledge to each student of God’s unconditional acceptance of them and the reality of a real relationship they can have with a God who loves them and who died for them. “Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:4 - Spotlight Around the School Bright Beginnings - Prekinder Miss Kristi reports that all her children are very quiet and very well behaved. The Prekinders enjoy their day filled with reading, art and craft, free play outside on Deda John’s Playground. Afternoon nap time is a nice time to have a rest in the cool classroom, while soft music plays. Infant School - K to 3 The excitement of school has begun for so many. The Kinders report they are learning the letter A. Homework is being set and kids are going home testing the wits of their parents. The handball court, boat, tyre sandpit, playground and sports oval are all busy places at recess and lunchtimes. Primary School - 4 to 6 At our desks ready for the lesson of the day, our classroom is full of interesting characters who are keen to learn what our teachers have to teach. Mr Green and Mrs Sinclair have big plans for us and have challenged us to “Think Different”. Junior High School - 7 to 10 We have only had a few days at school and already the friendships we enjoyed last year have been reestablished. It’s great to see new students to our grades fitting in so well. Year 7 are quiet at the moment. We started some new classes - History and French and have also chosen our electives - IST/Art, Food/Metal. Swimming for sport was great on Friday, especially because it was so hot. We look forward to the Swimming Carnival in a few weeks. Senior High School - 11 to 12 Life seems like it is going to get pretty serious this year. Already the teachers are talking about ATAR scores and University Degrees. Assessment policies and calendars, the HSC syllabus outcomes, due dates, a new technology usage policy, ebooks on ipads... when will it all stop? One day at a time they tell us... one day at a time. Do your homework, start your assignments early and everthing will be OK in the end. Healthy Choice Canteen Volunteers needed. Hi, my name is Casie (pronounced Kay-cee) and I am the Team Leader of your new Out of Hours School Care service at Border Christian College. Some of you may have seen me around the school last week organising all of the exciting things for the After School Program this semester. Since I am joining your school community I thought it would be nice for you to know a little bit about me. The following is a short questionnaire that I have answered for you to get to know me. Tell us a little bit about your work background and why you have chosen to work in Outside School Hours Care. I have worked with children since 2010. I studied a Diploma of Children’s Services after finishing school and then went on to study at university. I am currently in my fourth year of a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Primary). Due to my background and interest in children’s education, health and wellbeing, I decided to peruse a position in Out of Hours School Care. And what do you like to do in your spare time when you’re not at work? I like to spend time outdoors, either on the beach or water skiing on Lake Hume. I also enjoy reading and I am currently in the process of writing children’s picture books. Who is your role model & why? There are a lot of people that I do admire, I really can’t pick one. I think that anyone who is willing to try new things, shows care and respect for other people and who can have fun is someone to look up to. About the program After School Care is always jam-packed with activities that are planned ahead by the Team Leader. Each session is based on a structured theme or activity which is tailored to each child of the program under the Government’s My Time Our Place Framework. Themes and activities are based around arts and crafts, cooking, sports, science, team games, drama, and dance. Homework Club can also be incorporated upon request. A complimentary healthy afternoon tea is also served to keep those tummies happy! Thankyou for making me feel welcome during my first week at Border Christian College. If you have any queries or issues please don’t hesitate to contact me on the service phone 0438 444 560 or Head office on 1300 366 437 – Casie Next week’s activities • Monday 10 February - Play dough & Team games • Tuesday 11 February - Summer mural & Shadow Tag • Wednesday 12 February - Nachos & Ball sports • Thursday 13 February - Birthday chart & Balloon Volleyball Enrol now – forms available at the School office Be sure to enrol so you can use the service if you need it!
