GETTING STARTED (CONT.)
Installation and Setup Checklist
Review the following checklist to ensure you have everything you need to properly install and operate your fan.
☐
I have the Haiku Installation Guide, which I followed to install the fan. Read the safety instructions and
install the fan according to the steps in the installation guide.
☐
I have an iPhone or iPod running iOS 7.1.2 operating system software or newer, or I have a mobile
digital device running Android 3.0 operating system software or newer.
☐
I have home Wi-Fi internet access. Big Ass Fans recommends migrating your fan to your home network
so that you do not have to switch between the fan and the internet on your mobile digital device and so
that you can operate Nest. Make sure the fan is within communication range to the router.
☐
If I am not migrating the fan to my home network, the fan will be installed within a 30 ft (9.14 m) radius
from where I will use my mobile digital device to control the fan. Range can be affected by large
obstructions if you do not migrate your fan to your home Wi-Fi network.
☐
I am not installing the fan on a circuit with a wall switch. Big Ass Fans does not recommend installing
the fan on a switched circuit because the switch must always be on in order for SenseME to operate.
☐
The fan is not directly above a heating or cooling source such as a stove or air conditioner. Installing a
fan directly above a heating or cooling source may inhibit accurate temperature sensor readings.
Downloading the SenseME App
Open the App Store or Google Play™ store and search for SenseME. Download the SenseME app by Big
Ass Fans. You must download the app on each mobile digital device that will control the fan.

The Home screen displays all fans, fan groups, and Nest thermostats in the household. The current speed and

Grouping Fans
If multiple fans are installed in the same space, Big Ass Fans recommends grouping them so that you can
control all fans simultaneously. The grouping feature should not be used for fans installed in separate rooms or
when fans are spaced over long distances.
TIP
If there is a scheduling conflict between the fan and the group, you will be asked if you want the fan to
match the group schedule. Select No if you want the fans to continue with the original schedule. The fan will
not be added to the group.
To create a group:
1. Tap
, and then tap Manage Groups.

Mode is enabled, SenseME remembers your manual speed adjustments to better know how to adjust fan speed
the next time you’re in the space. The light is not responsive to Smart Mode. The fan will not operate in Smart
Mode if it is set to operate in reverse or if it is in a group.
TIP
The default degree setting is Fahrenheit. Depending on your mobile digital device type, you have the option
to change it to Celsius either in the app’s Application Settings or in your mobile digital device settings under
the SenseME app.

To adjust the Smart Mode settings:
1. Select a fan, and then tap
.
2. Toggle Enabled to enable the feature.
3. Tap Adjust Settings.
4. Select your ideal temperature using the wheel selector. This should be set to the temperature at which you
want the fan to turn off. SenseME will automatically determine the appropriate speed at varying temperatures
to achieve the ideal comfort level based on your manual adjustments. The fan will learn your preferences and
automatically adjust itself to that speed in the future when the conditions are the same.
5. Tap
in the upper left corner of the screen.
To lock the Smart Mode settings so that the fan does not remember manual adjustments, toggle Lock My
Settings to the enabled position.
To clear the Smart Mode history and current settings, toggle Lock My Settings to the disabled position, and

Setting time intervals
You can set the number of minutes the fan, light, or both stay on after you exit the space.
To set the time intervals for the motion sensor:
1. Select a fan, and then tap
.
2. Do one of the following:
a)Toggle Fan Sensor Enabled to the enabled position if only the fan should turn off after the set number of
minutes.
b) Toggle Light Sensor Enabled to the enabled position if only the light should turn off after the set number of
minutes. The Light Sensor Enabled option only appears if you set your fan up with a light.
c) Toggle Fan Sensor Enabled and Light Sensor Enabled to the enabled position if both the fan and the light
should turn off after the set number of minutes.
3. Tap Turn Off After, and then scroll to the number of minutes after which the fan, light, or both should turn off
after you exit the room. The minimum number of minutes is one (1). If there is any motion in the room during
the set time interval, the timer will reset. When the timer reaches zero, the fan, light, or both will turn off. Once
motion is detected again, the fan, light, or both will immediately turn back on and the timer will reset.
4. Tap Done. The fan will now detect your presence in the room. If there is an event scheduled that includes the
Motion Sensor, the event time will appear at the bottom of the screen.
To disable the motion sensor, toggle Fan Sensor Enabled, Light Sensor Enabled, or both to the disabled

If enabled, the connected thermostat automatically switches to return to a pre-set, energyefficient setting until you use the SenseME app or until the Nest Thermostat senses motion.
If enabled, your home network will appear below. To change your home network, tap the
network name and enter the new network. Tap Save.
TIP
Use Auto Mode when you are gone from
your home for short periods of time. For
example, if you are outside working in
your yard, the Nest Thermostat will not
be active until it senses your presence
back in the room or you use the SenseME
app. If you will be gone for a longer
duration of time, turn off Auto Mode so
that the motion sensor does not trip every
time the cat strolls by the thermostat.
