Mission Statement / Our Story
Antiquity Tile is a proud member of The American Art Tile Movement
Antiquity Tile, founded in 1990, is located in rural Maine on an eighteenth century farmstead.
Just like the New England village potters of early America, our artisans are hard working local people with
a strong sense of community. Together, we strive for perfection in our work—and in our care for our
environment.
For close to 25 years we have thoughtfully designed, carefully crafted, and consciously produced all of our
own ceramic art tile right here in Maine. From raw clay to finished art tile—all in house, every step of the way—
we work hard to reduce our impact on our environment, continuing to achieve our goal for a low carbon footprint.
We use recycled wood as our main source of heat, to fuel our kilns and fire our ceramic tile at 2500
degrees "white heat" giving our high-fired tile a life expectancy of over 2,000 years. We turn our clay
and glaze discards back to usable clay and glaze with little or no waste, we buy all our products recycled
whenever and wherever possible, and our clay bodies and art glazes are formulated only by us—and
fabricated exclusively with American manufacturers, thereby strengthening our national economy.
Antiquity Tile is passionately respectful of its environment, and we seek to help not hurt the
natural world around us as we engage in our worthwhile work of creating and crafting fine art works of clay
for our clients and customers.
