The Bar Council and Bank Negara Malaysia (“BNM”) are
jointly organising a workshop to promote e-payment to
Members of the Bar and to create awareness on
available e-payment services relating to the legal
industry.

Areas to be covered:
 Full suite of services offered by banks: For law firm’s
account and for client account
 Fraud: Is internet banking safe and secure?
 Fraud trends in Malaysia and worldwide
 The revolution of security features in Malaysia
and other initiatives undertaken in promoting
awareness of safe practices
 Innovations in fraud and data security
 Payment reference standards: How customers
(account holders) reconcile payments made and
received
Presentation 1: BNM and the Industry’s Migration to
E-Payments
Presentation 3 : Solicitors’ Account Rules
by Karen Cheah Yee Lynn, Treasurer, Malaysian Bar
Objective: To create awareness on the national agenda
on migration to e-payments as well as the benefits of
e-payments
Objective: To educate participants on the Solicitors’
Account Rules
There will be exhibition booths set up by financial
institutions and government agencies at the workshop.

 Policy on e-payments: BNM’s effort to push national
agenda on migration to e-payments
 Payment reform initiatives by BNM: Inter-Bank Giro
(“IBG”) fee reduction of 10 sen and cheque
processing fee of 50 sen
 Benefits of e-payments: Why e-payment is a more
relevant payment method
 Government acceptance of e-payments: Moving
towards use of e-payment at all government
counters
Presentation 2: E-payment Services by Banks
Objective: To educate participants on e-payment
services offered by the banks and to promote secure
e-payment services
