RLH High Voltage Isolation Solutions - HVP
High voltage environments are susceptible to GPR (Ground Potential Rise) events.
In some cases a voltage potential between the ground grid and remote earth may
exceed 100Kv. Common locations with GPR occurrences include power
generating facilities and power substations.
Generating facilities and substations commonly lease communication services
from the local telephone company (Telco). Service types ranging from a simple
telephone (POTS), T1, DSL, or MPLS are typically delivered from a central office
via copper wire.
In all situations where copper communication lines (remote grounds) enter into
high voltage areas catastrophic damage and critical failures may occur due to
GPR. Personnel safety is greatly jeopardized when exposed to potential remote
ground contact during a GPR event.
The RLH Fiber Link systems provide high voltage isolation by converting electrical
(copper-based) signals into optical (fiber-based) signals.The Fiber Link CO side or
CFJ (Copper-to-Fiber Junction) is ideally located a safe distance away from the
power station. The Sub side or OEI (Optical-to-Electrical) is conveniently located
inside the power station. Because fiber optic cables do not contain any metallic
members, service can be safely and reliably connected.
