RETIREMENT OF MARCIA MATTHEWS COHEN
Friday 28 February 2014 chronicled the last day of employment for Mrs. Marcia Matthews Cohen, Sales
& Marketing Officer, at the National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ). Mrs. Cohen proceeded on a
well-earned and most deserving retirement effective 01 March 2014.
Mrs. Marcia Elaine Cohen has provided over twenty (20) years of distinguished service to the Bureau of Standards
Jamaica (BSJ) in several capacities since her employment on 04 October 1993 as a Marketing Officer.
Employment history:
In less than three years in the position of Marketing Officer, Mrs Cohen was assigned to the
Billings and Collections Unit effective 01 May 1996, to assist with the collection of outstanding
receivables, in addition to the duties of the Marketing Officer.
During that same year 01 August – 06 September 1996, she was assigned acting position of Office
Administrator with responsibilities for the Canteen and its staff and monitoring the operations
of the Security Guards.
Mrs. Cohen was assigned acting position of Office Administrator on two other occasions; 30
June – 04 August 1997 and 01 September -03 November 1998.
On 08 May 2006, Mrs. Cohen was transferred to the Standards Development and Certification
Department as a Standards & Certification Officer.
The National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ) later benefitted from her expertise, warm
and courteous personality when she was transferred there as the Sales & Marketing Officer on
02 April 2007. This position she held up to the time of her retirement.
Mrs. Cohen served on various Committees during her tenure:

 Canteen Policy
 Happy Hour
 Uniform Committee
 Citizen’s Charter
She ably represented the BSJ at several local and international events:
 Career Expo at the University of the West Indies, 10-11 March 1994
 ISO Training in Marketing & Promotion of International Standards in Costa Rica, 68 March 2007

Mrs. Cohen received the following Awards:
 Recognition as Employee of the Quarter, NCBJ for the October – December 2007 and
January – March 2008 for her high performance, results oriented and her focus on
accomplishing the macro-objectives of the NCBJ
 Long Service Award for 15 years of dedicated service to the BSJ at its Staff Awards
Ceremony held December 2008.
Mrs. Cohen is characterized as a hard worker, co-operative, flexible and a dedicated professional
who sought every opportunity to improve the departments in which she worked.
The management and staff of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica and the National Certification
Body of Jamaica join in wishing Mrs. Cohen many years of peaceful, healthy and fulfilling
retirement; happy memories of her contributions to the Bureau and NCBJ’s successes; and
God’s richest blessings in future endeavours.
