Generations Day Care
Celebrating 10 Years of Quality Child Care in Bashaw!!
July is always fun at Generations with school out for the summer, the children at Generations will be able to make use
of the Bashaw School playground!! YAY!!!
We want to thank everyone who donates to Generations Day Care, be it items such as containers, or toys, paper or
crayons, plants & dirt, and your most precious gift: TIME! Our continuing success comes from the folks of Bashaw and it is
much appreciated in ALL forms! THANKS BASHAW!!!!
Generations Day Care is PROUD to present Nick Groot!
Hi! The name’s Nick Groot and I drifted into this country twenty odd years ago on a Sedco rig drillin’ shallow gas wells. I met
my future wife Hallowe’en night in 1993 in Donalda. I asked her for a dance and was told in no uncertain terms that I could go
back whence I came! We happened to meet again three weeks later at the same place without costumes to a different outcome
 looked into each others eyes, and the rest is history!
Presently, I am a Child Development Assistant (former level 1). My first paying job was as a Junior Counsellor at
Camp Easter Seal. From this start I worked my way through two nursing homes, three Scout Troops, one Venturer Company
(next level after Scouts, 14–18 years), nine months at Saskatoon’s Campus Daycare Centre,
eighteen months as a youth worker in a receiving home in Edmonton, two years as a Venturer Leader Trainer, two years as a Sunday
School Teacher to 4 Special Needs Students and two years on Camrose
Children Centre’s Board of Directors. From the age of twenty I have
helped to raise two beautiful girls and one handsome lad, instilling in
them a sense of confidence, humility and courage. My wife and I spend
most of our time with family
pursuits and working on our
small acreage on the edge of
town.

Reading again this summer!
BDSS will offer Precision Reading
for school aged as well as entering
school aged children. Programming starts on July 7, 2014. This
opportunity will build on the basics
that the children have learned in
Preschool. This is not a mandatory
program, but parents might find it
interesting, and valuable to begin
the journey into the wonderful
world of reading.

Summer

Park!!
Thursdays 1-3
Drop In
Summer in the Park is an opportunity for families to
experience the Imagination Playground. It is a great
opportunity for children to learn through play using
equipment that they can manipulate into whatever
their minds create.
Although we are excited to facilitate play and we allow
children to come without their parents, supervised
child care is not provided! So we request that young
children, who are unable to play at the park by themselves, come accompanied by a parent.

News
The Ag. Society has had another busy month.
The Farmers' Market is up and running. We have some new vendors and a number of
familiar favorites. Julius will be there with fresh fruit and the Donalda Colony is back with
vegetables. Birney's Berries won't have strawberries until mid July thanks to the frost.
Many thanks to the Board's directors for all their hard work at the slow-pitch tournament concession. That was two days of commitment on their part. I'd also like to thank the
tournament organizers for offering us the opportunity to help out.
Were you able to attend the "Bull Busting" event on June 14th? There were about 200
people out to watch, and overall, we were quite pleased with the first time event. Thanks to
Nick for coming up with the idea and a special thanks to all the volunteers, including the
Multi- Club 4-H, for their help.
We're still waiting to find out if the WPCA Run-offs are a go. They will be making their
decision following the Ponoka Stampede races. Keep your fingers crossed!
The 4-H Beef Club finished up another successful year with their Awards Banquet on
June 20th. A number of these young people will also be involved in the summer cattle
shows. We wish them well.
Finally, I would like to thank the Board's town "rep" - Darren Pearson for his support
at our events and his input at our meetings. We appreciate your commitment to the Ag.
Society and to the Town of Bashaw.

Greetings From Family Wellness
It is the end of the school year and the official start of summer holidays and fun for the students. I
want to take time to reflect back on the extraordinary year of student driven projects and
achievements.
Drama/Theatre- 3 Musicals involving- 54 Elementary students
-26 Jr High drama students
-24 Sr High drama students
- Spring Concert - Jr and Sr High drama students
- Elementary Talent Show-36 elementary students
- Talent Showcase/Goodbye Song-Sr High drama students
Roots Of Empathy- 3 Roots classes
- 64 students + 2 babies + 2 mommies + 2 instructors + 3 classroom teachers = priceless learning
Bashaw
Reading/spelling programs-22 students involved in these programs throughout the school year.
Foodsvaried as to support needed. 4 seniors supported reading for 2 months with our grade one
Programs
readers weekly.
Shared Wisdom- Within the last two months 5 seniors came into the school to share their collective
knowledge with our grades 5 and 6 classes. The seniors talked to the grade five class about what
school was like when they were young, the wars, the depression and life growing up in a rural
community. Our grade six class spent time learning to crochet. Our senior community members were
a great gift to the students in the school.
Arts Infusion-19 students involved throughout the year. These are some of the incredible projects that
were coordinated, organized and achieved by the Sr High students involvement as leaders in our
school using varied multimedia and other sources to enhance programs and student wellness within
our school. They are as follows: videos for the UFA Get N Give contest, Hero's Project, Mini Dunkers
coaching and tournament, Jump Rope For Heart, Spring Carnival, Elementary Track Day,
Operation Retirement Videos, Goodbye projects for teachers.
We have an incredible bunch of students. They have shown leadership, care and support for others
within and outside of our school community. Young people will always rise and step forth as our
future leaders either in front of, or behind the scenes. They just need opportunity to create, build and
guide their community. I am proud of them and grateful for their gifts. We can celebrate our youth as
we all move into the summer season.

Bashaw School project
What’s new?
June 2014
As you know, the Alberta government announced in late January that Bashaw would be receiving a brand new
school. Here’s an update on what’s been happening with the project:
A Planning Committee is in Place
A Planning committee has been formed. The members include:
Craig Dimond, Principal of Bashaw School;
Erin Elder, Bashaw School Council representative;
Penny Shantz, Mayor, Town of Bashaw;
Kendall Severson, Trustee - Camrose County South, Battle River School Division;
Imogene Walsh, Assistant Superintendent, Business, Battle River School Division;
Percy Roberts, Director of Operations and Maintenance, Battle River School Division;
along with representatives of Alberta Education, Alberta Infrastructure and the architectural firm.
An Architect has been selected
The architectural firm Workun Garrick Partnership has been selected to design the new school.
The project is in the design phase
Planning for the new Bashaw School is in the design phase. That means members of the Planning Committee
have been touring schools in communities throughout Alberta, gathering ideas in preparation for making decisions about what Bashaw’s new school will include.
What’s next?
Design plans will be firmed up and finalized throughout the fall and winter. After that, the next phase will be
to obtain a contractor to oversee construction.
Watch for updates
As plans progress, we will continue to share information with the community. Thanks for your interest in this
project!
