INSTRUCTION MANUAL AK Micro Dot Rail Cover CAUTION: ALWAYS PRACTICE SAFE FIREARMS HANDLING! BE SURE THAT THE FIREARM IS UNLOADED BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES! BE SURE THAT THE FIREARM IS POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION AT ALL TIMES! This new innovative NcSTAR AK Micro Dot Rail Cover allows you to mount various types of optics onto your AKM type of rifle. The rear pad of the NcSTAR AK Micro Dot Rail Cover will allow you to mount an NcSTAR Red or Green Micro Dot Reflex Sight directly to the Rail Cover. It allows the mounting of the Micro Dot as low as possible, to allow Co-Witnessing the NcSTAR Micro Dot Sight to your AK Iron Sights. Compatible NcSTAR Micro Dot Reflex Optics: DDAB, DDABG, DDACBL, DGAB, DXGAB, DXDAB The NcSTAR AK Micro Dot Rail (AK MDR) Cover is designed to fit most AKM rifle variants (with stamped sheet metal receivers), and replaces the existing factory AKM Dust Cover. The AKM has been manufactured in many countries all over the world including: Russian, many eastern European countries, China, Egypt, and even the United States. There are many dimension differences between all the AKM make and models available. The AK MDR Cover is designed to fit most AKM style rifles, but not all. The AK MDR Cover may require some hand fitting to obtain the proper fit. This may require you to utilize the services of a Qualified Gun Smith (that is familiar with the AK) to hand fit the AK Micro Dot Rail Cover to your AKM rifle. NOTE: DO NOT FILE ANY PART OF YOUR RIFLE OR THE ORIGINAL FACTORY DUST COVER. THIS MAY REQUIRE THE SERVICES OF A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH (THAT IS FAMILIAR WITH THE AK) TO HAND FIT THE AK MICRO DOT RAIL COVER TO YOUR AKM RIFLE. INSTALLATION: 1. After you’ve done a Firearm Safety Check, you need to verify how far the Rear Recoil Spring Guide sticks out past the Factory Dust Cover. Take some measurements of how far the Spring Guide sticks out past the Factory Dust Cover, mark the Rear Recoil Spring Guide with a pencil, or take a digital picture for future reference. 2. Depress the Rear Recoil Spring Guide button on the back of the Dust Cover and remove the existing Factory Dust Cover. Before you start any hand fitting, you should check and verify the overall length of the Dust Cover. Take your Factory Dust Cover and the AK MDR Cover and stand them up on a table top with them back to back, making sure that they are approximately the same overall length. If the Dust Covers are the same length then you may continue with the hand fitting. If the AK MDR Cover is too short, then it will not work with your particular AKM model. 3. Next item you will have to verify is the size, shape, and location of the Recoil Spring Guide opening in the Dust Cover. Take your Factory Dust Cover and set it back to back with the AK MDR Cover, looking through the Factory Dust Cover Recoil Spring Guide Opening compare it to the opening of the AK MDR Cover. If the AK MDR has a smaller opening than the Factory Dust Cover, use a scribe to mark the Factory Opening (using it as a guide/template) onto the AK MDR. The scribe lines should only be a few thousandths off and should be an easy job with a hand file. Take a small mill hand file and file the AK MDR Recoil Spring Guide opening up to the scribe line(s). Do not use power tools, as they take too much material off too fast. 4. Now for some test fittings. Loosen the two Allen head bolts at the end of the AK MDR Cover, so that they do not stick past the threads. Reinstall the AK MDR Cover onto the receiver. The Rear Recoil Spring Guide should poke through the AK MDR opening the same as it did with the Factory Dust Cover in Step #1 of the installation. Check the measurements you took earlier, pencil line, or photos of the original Factory Cover. If the Rear Recoil Spring Guide does not fit through the hole the same, repeat Step 3 of this instructions until it fits properly. Make sure that the bottom rear edge of the AK MDR Cover sits securely down into the groove of the rear AK Trunnion. The use of the two Allen head bolts at the end of the AK MDR Cover is optional, if you’ve got a nice tight fit. If you have a little side to side play, the Allen head bolts are only there to take up any play in the Dust Cover, carefully tighten the Allen head bolts until they remove the play. Do Not over tighten the Allen head bolts, as they will lift the AK MDR Cover from the groove in the rear AK trunnion. 5. The Top Plate can be adjusted by loosening the two Top Plate Screws in order to get the proper fit. Minor fitting may be required by hand filing the front end of the top plate and Dust Cover. Be careful not to remove too much material, as this may result in a loose fit. 6. Before firing the AKM rifle, make sure the Dust Cover is fitting the receiver correctly. The front on the Dust Cover should go into the rounded recess provided for the Dust Cover of the Rear Sight Trunnion. The bottom rear sheet metal lip of the AK MDR Cover is sitting properly in the groove of the rear trunnion. If you are using the two rear Allen Head Bolts, make sure that you only have them tight enough to remove any side to side play. That you Do Not have them over tightened to the point that they actually lift the bottom rear sheet metal lip of the AK MDR Cover from the groove in the rear AK trunnion. Micro Dot Reflex Sight Installation Process: 1. The NcSTAR Micro Dot Reflex Sights are two halves. The Upper half has the: optical lens, LED dot reticle, electronics, adjustment screws, and batteries. The Lower half is the Mount for mounting onto Weaver Style & Picatinny rails. The Lower Mount half is not required for mounting onto the AK Micro Dot Rail Cover. 2. To remove the mount from the NcSTAR Micro Dot Reflex Sight, you will have to remove the two larger Allen head Bolts located on top of the Micro Dot sight. The two Bolts are located between the Elevation Adjustment Screw and the Optical lens. Use the provided Allen wrench to remove the Bolts Counter-Clockwise. With the Allen head Bolts removed, set the Bolts aside in a safe place, they will be used again to mount the Micro Dot Sight to AK Micro Dot Rail Cover. 3. With the Bolts removed you can now separate the Upper Optic half with the Lower Mount half. Be careful with any wires, switch, and battery when separating the optic halves. 4. Place the CR2032 battery into the battery cavity in the Upper half with the Positive “+” terminal facing out and then carefully place the Micro Dot onto the rear pad on the AK Micro Dot Rails Cover. Place the On/Off Switch (if your NcSTAR Micro Dot optic is equipped with one) into the rear rectangular cavity and make sure the wires for the switch is placed into the center channel. Mount the Micro Dot sight with the Optical Lens facing the muzzle of the firearm. Align the four posts with the four holes in the Micro Dot Sight and press the optic down over the four posts. 5. Take the two Bolts that were removed earlier and place them through the Upper optic. Use the supplied Allen wrench to tighten the Bolts Clockwise. Make sure you do not pinch any of the wires when securing the Bolts. Carefully tighten each bolt, but do not over tighten the Bolts. 6. Check and verify that the Micro Dot is working correctly. Turn the switch On (if equipped with an On/Off switch) or remove the top cover to activate the Micro Dot optic. If the Micro Dot sight does not turn on, please check the battery to see if it was installed correctly or replace the battery with a New CR2032 battery. Also make sure that you have not over tightened the mounting Bolts, as this may prevent the optic from turning on. NcSTAR Inc. 18031 Cortney Ct.
