June 2014
With June 19 just around the corner, everyone is asking themselves that annual question that sounds something like, "How will I get everything done that must get done before the end of the year?" Somehow, we all succeed in accomplishing the tasks and on
June 20, many of us will already be thinking about the 2014-2015 school year.
A great big THANK YOU with so much appreciation to the wonderful staff of the
Southington School System! It takes all of us to create a team and from my perspective, that is exactly what we are.
This has been quite the year!
 Teacher and Administrator Evaluation and Support Plan
 Smarter Balanced Testing
 Common Core State Standards
 Middle School Construction Projects
 An end to Dr. Erardi's tenure in Southington
Despite the challenges facing the district, Southington proudly continues to celebrate so
many accomplishments. Many of the more visible accomplishments of our district make
the local news headlines and/or social media streams. I would like to reflect on the other
aspects of our district that are most deserving of recognition, but probably won't ever
appear in any news report.

The Board of Education has approved Funding for an
Electronic Time and Attendance System
Starting in early fall, we will be transition away from paper timesheets and move to electronic pin entry.
Hardware with pin data entry pads will be installed in every school and office location. The primary users
of the new system will be paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, maintenance, and security personnel. The approval of time will all be done electronically and the information will feed directly into our
payroll system once approved by the supervisor. The business office has done a lot of research in determining the product that would meet our needs and we are confident that once we get past the initial
hurdles during implementation we will all benefit with this new technology.
We are still working out the details of the transition and will notify impacted staff with information on
utilizing the new system next school year.

What’s new in Technology?
Our long term planning technology committee is coming back to the Board of Education meeting in June for a final report.
Two 1:1 Chromebook pilots are taking place – one at JFK in Grade 6 and one at SHS in Marketing. Chromebooks were handed
out to students the week of May 20. We are hoping for feedback for our Technology Committee soon.
Google Apps training for teachers will take place either August 26 or 27 (depending on grade level) at SHS. This will be one full
day of training per teacher.
Important!!! Google Apps for Education Update
We plan on DELETING all student accounts at the end of this school year unless we have specifically been asked not to
(primarily for Special Education students). Please let your students know that they will need to save anything from their
school google account before June 30th. They will be recreated for August without the leading 2 digit graduation year.
