My study and life in Shiga University It dates back to almost three years I came to Shiga University as research student, which was my first visit to Japan. When I reached Kansai International Airport and was waiting for my supervisor, somebody with a tall figure and a smiling face came to me and asked with a cool voice, “Are you Mr. Saha?” I looked at him with flurry of excitement; he was none but my supervisor. He came to take me from the airport though he was awfully busy with his research work. His cordial welcome helped me create an image the concept of supervisor in Japanese University. Actually that was my first expression on Japanese and for the first time I came close to a Japanese man. With my professor I reached International House of Shiga University, a newly built dormitory for international students. The staff, spoiling her holiday came and was waiting for us to hand over the room’ s key, extended her welcome in such an amiable way that I was lavishly impressed and could easily guess the teacher-student and student-staff relationships in this University. The University is located in Hikone, a countryside, abundant with green and natural beauty, is historically a famous place. The position of Shiga University is just by the side of the Lake, Biwako, which is the biggest lake in Japan. Those who like nature, green and those who like peace, this is the ample place to study and research in. The university is equipped with almost all the necessary facilities. We have access to all necessary journals, books and articles. While studying in Shiga University, professors as well as the staffs provided me with all sorts of assistance, which made my student life in this university easy and smooth. I belonged to Graduate School of Economics. Professors from famous universities around the world and with variety areas of specializations in economics taught me and helped me think in a broader way, which really enriched my research work in Shiga University. Whenever I faced any difficulty in regard with my study or my personal matter I discussed with my supervising professor and got the matters solved easily. I found all the professors in this university very much kind, helpful and cooperative minded. The faculty of economics of Shiga University is the biggest in Japan. As regards the scale of economics-faculty, there are very few universities in the world, which have economics-faculties, are as big as of Shiga University. Outside campus there are many events and festivals all the year round. Apart form the study, students have every chance to take part in these events. I got myself involved in many activities and enjoyed my student life in Shiga University. Citizens of Hikone and residents around the campus keep in close touch with the students so that students have opportunity to share the pleasure with them. I am really indebted to Shiga University. The memory I have developed, the knowledge I have achieved from this university will remain as a treasure in my life. I feel pride that I could become a student of this university. 賀 大 学 の 学 生 に な ︵れ 和た 訳こ 文と 責 を 誇 上り 村 に 思 健 っ て 学い 務ま 課す 留。 学 生 係 長 ︶ 出 来 た 思 い 出 、 得 た 知 識 は 、 私 の 人 生 の 宝 と し て 残 り ま す 。 滋 に 滋喜 賀び 大を 学分 にか はち 本合 当う にこ 感と 謝が しで てき いま ます す。 。 こ こ で 私 が 作 る こ と が は 学 生 と 親 し く 接 し て く れ る の で 、 学 生 は 地 域 の 皆 さ ん と と も 加 し 、 学 生 生 活 を 楽 し ん で い ま す 。 彦 根 市 民 、 大 学 周 辺 の 住 民 多 く の 催 し や 祭 が 年 間 を 通 じ て あ り ま す 。 私 も 多 く の 活 動 に 参 ま キせ ャん ン。 パ ス 外 に は 、 学 生 が 勉 強 以 外 の 活 動 と し て 参 加 で き る 、 経 済 学 部 は 日 本 最 大 で 、 そ の ス ケ ー ル は 世 界 で も あ ま り 類 を 見 生 方 は 皆 さ ん と て も 親 切 で 協 力 的 な 方 ば か り で す 。 滋 賀 大 学 の は 、 指 導 教 官 に 相 談 す れ ば 容 易 に 解 決 で き ま す 。 滋 賀 大 学 の 先 研 究 も 充 実 し て い ま す 。 研 究 や 個 人 的 な 面 で 困 難 に 直 面 し た 時 指 導 に よ り 、 広 い 視 野 で 考 え る こ と が で き る よ う に な り 、 私 の い ろ な 分 野 を 専 門 と す る 、 諸 外 国 の 有 名 な 大 学 出 身 の 先 生 方 の す 。 私 は 大 学 院 経 済 学 研 究 科 に 在 学 し て い ま す 。 経 済 学 の い ろ ら ゆ る 種 類 の 援 助 を 下 さ り 、 大 学 生 活 を 送 り や す く し て く れ ま 必 要 な 学 術 雑 誌 や 書 籍 を 見 る こ と が で き ま す 。 先 生 や 職 員 は あ は 滋勉 賀学 大、 学研 に究 はに ほう とっ んて どつ 全け ての の場 必所 要で なす 施 設 が あ り ま す 。 全 て の 琵 琶 湖 の ま さ に 脇 に あ り 、 自 然 、 緑 、 静 寂 を 愛 す る 者 に と っ て 的 に 有 名 な 彦 根 に あ り ま す 。 滋 賀 大 学 は 日 本 一 大 き な 湖 で あ る じ 滋さ 賀せ 大、 学強 ︵く 経印 済象 学に 部残 ︶り はま 緑し やた 自。 然 の 美 し さ に 恵 ま れ た 、 歴 史 迎 は 、 滋 賀 大 学 の 先 生 と 学 生 、 学 生 と 職 員 の 関 係 の 良 好 さ を 感 さ り 、 部 屋 の カ ギ を く れ ま し た 。 彼 女 か ら 受 け た 愛 想 の 良 い 歓 し が だ い （１３） ま し た 。 会 館 職 員 の 方 は 休 日 に も か か わ ら ず 私 を 待 っ て い て 下 に 新 し く 建 て ら れ た 宿 舎 で あ る 、 滋 賀 大 学 国 際 交 流 会 館 に 着 き の 第 一 印 象 と な り ま し た 。 先 生 に 連 れ ら れ 、 外 国 人 学 生 の た め メ そー れジ がを 私形 の成 日す 本る 人一 と助 間と 近な でり 接ま しし たた 初。 の 体 験 で 、 日 本 に つ い て す 。 先 生 の 暖 か い 歓 迎 は 私 が 日 本 の 大 学 に お け る 指 導 教 官 の イ は 研 究 が と て も お 忙 し い の に 、 空 港 へ 迎 え に 来 て 下 さ っ た の で し て そ の 方 を 見 ま し た 。 そ の 方 こ そ 私 の 指 導 教 官 で し た 。 先 生 で ﹁ サ ハ さ ん で す か ？ ﹂ と 声 を か け て 下 さ い ま し た 。 私 は 興 奮 待 っ て い た 時 、 長 身 の 方 が 笑 顔 で 近 づ い て 来 ら れ 落 ち 着 い た 声 に と っ て 初 め て の 来 日 で し た 。 関 西 空 港 に 着 い て 指 導 教 官 を 研 究 生 と し て 滋 賀 大 学 に 来 て か ら 三 年 近 く が 経 ち ま し た 。 私 ア ヌ パ ム 大・ 学サ 院ハ 経︵ 済バ 学ン 研グ 究ラ 科デ 二シ 回ュ 生︶ 私 の 滋 賀 大 学 で の 研 究 と 生 活
