INSENSE
MEMS SENSOR
INSense is a second generation MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical System) based motion sensor that uses the latest high
accuracy 6 DoF (Degrees of Freedom) MEMS technology to deliver high accuracy pitch and roll data. This technology is combined with a stabilized magnetic heading and a fully integrated
Valeport miniIPS depth sensor (0.01% full scale accuracy) that
reduces the number of separate units and comms lines on a
vehicle, as all components are housed within a very small form
factor 3000 or 6000m housing.
The built in magnetic heading sensor provides <1 degree
heading accuracy whilst being aided by the MEMS unit allowing continual performance from the heading unit even in the
presence of ferrous metals, where normal fluxgate compasses
would drastically swing off course and generally struggle. This
unit operates as a high quality primary magnetic heading sensor
on smaller ROVs, or as a backup to a true north seeker on a work
class ROV.
In addition the INSense is capable of full function INS (Inertial
Navigation System) performance using aiding from a variety of
inputs such as USBL, LBL, DVL and GPS to provide increased accuracy, outlier rejection and continual positional output of the
aiding systems. The IPS depth provides constant high quality
depth data, essential to many ROV tasks. The specification lends
itself to many survey tasks as well as general navigation.
INSense is the next stage in Teledyne CDL’s development of the
aided MEMS technology navigation for ROVs and towed sensors
allowing ease of installation and use, less footprint coverage
due to the combination of sensors and reduction of data comms
lines, without a reduction in operational versatility. The proprietary Teledyne CDL inertial algorithms available on this product
are highly complementary to the depth sensor, providing significantly enhanced inertial performance.
